This quilt took nearly a year…from thinking about it to finishing it. Now that it is done, I wonder why I delayed – it was such a fun quilt to make. I do have two more panels (not like this) but I will use as filler projects for when I want to have something to quilt. It is also nice to have a few baby quilts ready to give or donate.

I bought the pattern at QuiltCon in Austin in February 2020. It seems such a very long time ago, when we could travel and roam freely, although, we were beginning to worry about covid and its effects then. Anyway, I was at the Purple Pineapple booth with my friend Rose (Something Rose Made) . We each bought a few patterns. Now, Rose, is a co-conspirator extraordinaire! She sent me the panel that is featured in the pattern, so now I felt committed.

I bought the pink accent strip and the light background and was set to go. This is a super fun pattern! It was very fast to put together, a little less than an hour to cut and the same for sewing. The side strips are fused, and maybe could be a little straighter. I used the blanket stitch on my new Bernina 570 and loved the way it turned out.

Due to another blog friend, Nancy from Grace and Peace Quilting, I had purchased some Sherpa to try as a back. It was really the best option for this quilt, but it took me awhile to come around to it. After convincing myself to just do it, I loaded it on the frame and loved the way it turned out. For binding, I would used the sherpa wrapped to the front as suggested. Easy Peasy!

I decided on a loose pattern for quilting. I didn’t want it to pull up to much.

This one is called SquigE2E by TJ Speiser and is part of the Handiquilter library. I used Dream Cotton Select batting and it all worked really well together – quilting cotton, cotton batting and sherpa. I love love love the way it feels.

This quilt is all washed and ready to go. On the advice of many, I pulled the back to the front and sewed it down. Because it is a knit, it won’t fray so that is an added bonus. I didn’t put a label on it so may free hand my name and date somewhere on the quilt, as I don’t want a label on the front. I did put batting in, one of my favorites, Quilters Dream Select. In case you aren’t familiar with it, I suggest you take a look at it on Batting Super Sale* (this is my affiliate link which helps support the blog). Lyn sends out batting quickly and is super helpful if you have questions about it. I have used Quilter’s Dream for years and have been very happy with it.

For those of you following the life saga, our move to a smaller unit has been delayed from the 15th by the apartment management. I am not too thrilled, but maybe most of my February goals will be met before we get into the new unit. I don’t have a date right now, which is frustrating, but I am sure it will all work out in the end.

Well, at least you had a fun, cuddly quilt to work with while getting the frustrating news about the move. And yes, that Rose – gotta keep an eye on her! Cute quilt, and I love the sherpa. I might have to consider that for my Marcia Derse quilt!
What a sweet quilt! I’m very sorry that your move has been delayed, and I’ve been thinking of you and your husband.
That’s super cute! Sorry for the delay in the move, but I’m sure you will make the best of it.
Kathleen this panel is adorable. And the sherpa for the backing must make it so cuddly and warm. That Rose can be a handful.
So cute, Kathleen!!! The 3 pink strips are fused on? Between the sherpa, batting and quilting, it looks as cuddly as a baby quilt can be!!!
So fun! Can you explain how you did the Sherpa “binding “? Did you just cut the backing 1/2 bigger then fold it over the quilt edge and sew it down on the front?
So cute and cuddly!! Like Nancy, I am wondering if you fused the pink horizontal strips. I love it! Good luck with the move – 🙂
Super-cute quilt! And that Rose is an mmm-nabler extraordinaire for sure! I like what you did for the binding and sherpa like Linky is fun and not as daunting as one would think.
Super duper cute quilt!!! Love the quilting on it!
Oh this is so adorable! Love the quilting, the Sherpa, the panel, everything! I especially like the backing pulled around front for the binding.
On the batting, there are so many choices. I didn’t see anything specifically called “Select”, or is that what you use?
Describing Rose as a co-conspirator extraordinaire is so accurate! I remembering reading your recap of QuiltCon 2020–little did we know that would be the last quilt show for quite a while!
This is so cute and cuddly Kathleen! I use QD pretty much exclusively. Though I’ve never used sherpa or cuddle or anything like that for backing, it looks so soft and comfy.
I love the way the quilting looks on the Sherpa and the self binding gives an extra fun look to the front.
Super cute quilt! Sorry to hear about the apartment delay. :o((
These panels are adorable…love the quilting on them. Just adorable.
Such a sweet quilt, and a fast one to whip up.
That is so cute and the sherpa makes it extra cuddly. You should do a tutorial sometime on how you sewed with the sherpa.
Hi Kathleen, that is a gorgeous finish! Congrats and good luck with the eventual move.
Great finish. Austin seems so long ago. We were all barely home when everything went crazy.
