About Me

My name is Kathleen Scargle McCormick and I am mostly a quilter, but do dabble in a bit of knitting. I am married to Jonathan and we have a wonderful adult son, John, and a lovely labradoodle, Percy. We split our time between Somerville MA and Peaks Island ME.  We go back and forth much of the year but will be spending more time in Maine in the near future.

John and Percy first meeting 2008

I learned to sew and knit at a young age, with my grandmother, Petronella, and then with many other great teachers.   I love both crafts, but really am a quilter.  I only dabble a little now in knitting, but still enjoy it very much when I do.

My quilting is comes from a desire to explore patterns I love with a great fabric. I have done it all: hand piecing, hand quilting, hand appliqué, english paper piecing, machine piecing, machine quilting, and even long-arm quilting. For 17 years, I have worked in a local quilt store, Cambridge Quilts, in Cambridge MA and helped people buy great fabrics and taught all sorts of classes.  I sew on a Bernina 440 QE and a Janome DC1050. I love both machines for different reasons, but am secretly wishing for a sit-down longarm to do the majority of my quilts.

The past year or two I am concentrating on finishing my UFO’s and getting some order to my sewing room. I am trying to use up collections or begin long term stash busting projects.  I know I don’t have as much fabric as some of my friends, but I would much rather be the one or two projects at a time than many.  As we downsize, I so look forward to having fewer “obligations” and more fun projects ahead.

I started this blog in 2008, and have only used it irregularly since then.  In the past year, I have put some more effort into it and joined the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers to help focus some more attention on my blog.  I sometimes want to design patterns, but I haven’t really turned my energies towards that just yet.  For now, I hope that this blog inspires your journey as it does mine.

Thanks for reading,

Kathleen
