Tips and Tutorials On The 22nd #14 (#TTot22)

Time is flying by – we’re ready for February’s Tips and Tutorials and while I did not blog last week, I am feeling a little panicked about all that I should do before the end of my time in Maine on Tuesday and a downsizing move and some blog commitments. Nonetheless, we are here and you deserves some great Tips and Tutorials!

For this month, I am doing tips about learning during covid times. We may be seeing some changes as vaccines are getting distributed but normal will take some time. Here are a few places that you can learn a lot of new things.

On Point Quilter (free newsletter, paid classes)
Sign up for Kari’s newsletter and start learning Electric Quilt. You receive a weekly email, usually with a video lesson, and some fun and timely topics. I looked up one I thought might be fun for March – Celtic Knot. Moreover, she is offering her Shoot for the Stars class for $30. It is a great way to get a big overview fast of making a complex quilt in a group of lessons for 10 minutes a day.

Batting Super Sale (free zoom workshops)
Lyn Heilman at Batting Super Sale is a delight to work with – she knows her batting so if you have any question about the look/performance of a batting she knows Hobbs, Quilters Dream, Mountain Mist and her own Stitch In Time Label. I like what she has offered and learned a ton about batting from Stephanie of Hobbs. Also, Lyn’s shipping is prompt and there is a link on my sidebar and here* to get to her shop. My affiliate link helps support my blog and is always on the sidebar.

Lyn is sponsoring another free workshop, so feel free to sign up and learn something new. The next one is “Batting: What’s Inside Matters!” with Stephanie of Hobbs, on March 3rd at 6:30 pm Central Time and you can Sign Up Here.

Sulky (free and paid)
I am Sulky products and focusing a bit on embroidery. My new machine can do that, so I want to learn a little more about it. Check out their resource page for thread, stabilizers, longarm quilting. They also have an Education and Events section that lists lots of opportunities here.

Shannon Fabrics (free)
Shannon makes two fabrics that I like for babies – Cuddle (minky plush) and Embrace (double gauze). I enjoyed the free classes and Facebook videos I have watched their tutorials and used their free patterns. Lots of great information that makes a strange fabric (cuddle) for quilters, much friendlier to be used in your sewing projects.

You Tube (free and subscriptions)
Wow – there is so much out there. I will tell you a few I subscribe to and you can also tell me if you have a favorite in the comments.

Adam Sew Fun – Handiquilter Educator
Bernina – my sewing machine and embroidery
Featherweight Shop – my sewing machine
Handi Quilter my longarm machine/frame

Sew Can She Sewing & quilting projects of all sorts

And last but not least…I have learned at lot at shows, Quilt Con, being the most recent. Admission fees often include trips to the vendors websites with freebies and coupons. This website listed quite a few shows, that are apparently happening, but I have highlighted two virtual ones below. Not sure when I am planning on a quilt show, but it will be a little bit from now.
Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival (2/24-27)
SMP Spring Quilting Festival (3/15-20)
Minnestoa Quilt Show (6/10-12)

Please link up your quilting (sewing) tips and tutorials here. The party isn’t any fun without your help!
