I am so pleased to be hopping along with the Virtual Cookie Exchange & Christmas Blog Hop. Thanks again, to Carol from Just Let Me Quilt who does a fabulous job coordinating this group. I had a pretty empty December and this hop is just the thing to put me in the Christmas mood. I love Christmas cookies, but won’t be visiting my family and succumbing to the cookies. So, this was just the excuse to make some and test out one of the old recipe cards.

Before we get to the cookies, I have a little coaster project for you. I love my self binding placemats that I make (the pattern is here). The instructions for the coasters are similar. The are perfect for some fun gifts or just a way to spruce up your house and use up a favorite fabric and batting scraps. Honestly, they take very little time and I have perfected the process so you should be pretty successful on your first go around.

Ah, and now to the cookies.

I have had some of my Grandmother’s recipes for two years and have meant to have a tea towel made with them. I decided I better try them; just in case anything was missing. I can attest, they turned out just right – melt in your mouth pecan balls!

Here is a version of the recipe that is easier than looking at the index card from my grandmother. She was known as Gi-Gi (great grandmother) in later years, so I called the file Gi Gi’s Pecan Balls.

Here’s the lineup of all the bloggers. Have fun collecting recipes and quilty ideas!

The coasters look great! Thanks for the recipe, they look good!
Good morning, Kathleen! I just love the looks of that setting triangle table. Very unique and oh so pretty! Thanks for the coaster pattern – that’s sweet of you. I’ve always made Pecan Balls or some version of them for my mom, and now for Sue’s mom. I can’t eat them but I hear they do actually just melt in your mouth with goodness. I think I will try your Gi-Gi’s version for our own GG. She’ll be happy to be the taste tester for us. Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Kathleen, how fun to have GiGi’s recipe in her handwriting! I’ve heard of making a hand towel out of recipe cards. Cute coasters! (Who’s learning Spanish??)
I have recipes from my grandmother too, and have thought about having tea towels made! Those coasters are cute, and I’m pretty sure I should be eating one of those cookies with my coffee right now – for breakfast!
What special memories GI-Gi’s recipes bring. We love those Pecan balls here too. I can’t wait to see the tea towel you create with her recipe on it. Thanks for the coaster pattern. What a great way to use up bits and bobs. Have a very Merry Christmas!
I bought a bag of pecans a month ago with no plan to use them. I think this must be why they ended up in my shopping cart. They sound delicious! I don’t have very many recipe cards left with my mom’s or grandmother’s writing, but the ones I have are treasures. Thank you for sharing this recipe, Kathleen, and for always being a bright star in my blog hops. xo
Pecan balls are one of the recipes my mother handed to me to make when I was a teenager, and I have mine typed up on a card from that time. It is one of our favorites and I have to make every year. Thanks so much for your instructions for the coasters!
Thanks for the coasters and the recipe. I have never made these, but had them at parties. I need to try them!
So pretty and so yummy.
The coasters look so nice and easy is good right now. Those pecan balls sound great. I’ve never heard of 10x sugar. Will have to go on a hunt to find out about it. Thanks for the recipe and pattern.
Thanks for sharing your pattern it is very generous of you!
Love your coasters and the pecan balls look delicious!!!
I have been having a wonderful time collecting. The cookies look and sound delicious – usually those old recipes are perfect. Thanks for the recipe and the coasters are a simple way to add a bit of festivity.
Thanks for the recipe which I downloaded. 🙂 The coasters are sweet and always come in handy don’t they! Going to have to join in next year methinks.
mmmmm – I would happily taste test those cookies! And the coasters would be perfect to make for gifts for any time of the year.
Kathleen I am thanking you for both the pretty mug rug and the decadent pecan cookies. A real joy to bake and eat I’m sure. Happy Christmas to your household.
Thanks for the coasters- they make great gifts and the cookies… yummy.
The Pecan Balls look delicious! Something to try for sure, thanks for sharing.
Kathleen, those pecan balls sound sooo good!! I will be giving them a try. Thanks for sharing your recipe with us. My grands call me GiGi too!! That makes this even more fun! Merry Christmas. So glad you hopped along with us!
Merry Christmas! I think that I’d like those pecan balls. I have no grandchildren yet, but the grand-doggers call me “Grr” and my husband is “Grr-Grr”, LOL.
I love the coasters! Mine are about due for replacement, so this is a timely reminder to stitch up some new ones. Thanks for linking up to TGIFF!
I’ve made self-binding napkins, but never coasters. What a good gift idea! Thanks for sharing your grandmother’s recipe, too. Those are some of my favorite cookies, but I’ve never made them. This might be the year to try!
Love the coasters! I love cookies like your almond balls, both my grandmothers made a version. I always knew of them as Russian Tea Cakes but I don’t know why (and apparently my parents used to argue about what they were called).
Love pecans and this recipe looks yummy! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
