I am so pleased to be hopping along with the Virtual Cookie Exchange & Christmas Blog Hop. Thanks again, to Carol from Just Let Me Quilt who does a fabulous job coordinating this group. I had a pretty empty December and this hop is just the thing to put me in the Christmas mood. I love Christmas cookies, but won’t be visiting my family and succumbing to the cookies. So, this was just the excuse to make some and test out one of the old recipe cards.
Before we get to the cookies, I have a little coaster project for you. I love my self binding placemats that I make (the pattern is here). The instructions for the coasters are similar. The are perfect for some fun gifts or just a way to spruce up your house and use up a favorite fabric and batting scraps. Honestly, they take very little time and I have perfected the process so you should be pretty successful on your first go around.
Ah, and now to the cookies.
I have had some of my Grandmother’s recipes for two years and have meant to have a tea towel made with them. I decided I better try them; just in case anything was missing. I can attest, they turned out just right – melt in your mouth pecan balls!
Here is a version of the recipe that is easier than looking at the index card from my grandmother. She was known as Gi-Gi (great grandmother) in later years, so I called the file Gi Gi’s Pecan Balls.

Good morning, Kathleen! I just love the looks of that setting triangle table. Very unique and oh so pretty! Thanks for the coaster pattern – that’s sweet of you. I’ve always made Pecan Balls or some version of them for my mom, and now for Sue’s mom. I can’t eat them but I hear they do actually just melt in your mouth with goodness. I have recipes from my grandmother too, and have thought about having tea towels made! Those coasters are cute, and I’m pretty sure I should be eating one of those cookies with my coffee right now – for breakfast!

I bought a bag of pecans a month ago with no plan to use them. I think this must be why they ended up in my shopping cart. They sound delicious! I don’t have very many recipe cards left with my mom’s or grandmother’s writing, but the ones I have are treasures. Pecan balls are one of the recipes my mother handed to me to make when I was a teenager, and I have mine typed up on a card from that time. It is one of our favorites and I have to make every year. Thanks so much for your instructions for the coasters!

Merry Christmas! I think that I’d like those pecan balls. I have no grandchildren yet, but the grand-doggers call me “Grr” and my husband is “Grr-Grr”, LOL.

Love the coasters! I love cookies like your almond balls, both my grandmothers made a version. I always knew of them as Russian Tea Cakes but I don’t know why (and apparently my parents used to argue about what they were called).
