The Stay At Home Round Robin is winding down; two more weeks of prompts then a few week off to get your top together! Time flies when we make beautiful quilts, doesn’t it. I know you are waiting to hear what Brenda has in store for us, so let’s check it out.
The Fifth Prompt

Prompt: Make a half log cabin! Check out Brenda’s post here.
This is a pretty specific block, but there are a few ways to look at it. As I looked at blocks in Electric Quilt 8 I found a few I thought fit the bill. The first one on the left is courthouse steps and not at all a half log cabin BUT it might hold some inspiration for you. When I chose my block, I never looked at the courthouse steps layout, so it is there as food for thought. The next two block, the basket and flower, both have a half square log cabin….interesting right?

The last block here is a quarter square log cabin and for some reason that is what I always had in mind and that is what I used….oops. Actually, it was just a mistake in my head as I never thought of rectangle for a block. I will be interested to see what some of the others hosts did.
My Block

Here’s my block, and really it is a quarter square log cabin! I made 12, to fit in the corners.

Now, I do get a half log cabin on either side – the way I laid it out in the outer border. So, it works!

Just for entertainment, I wanted to show you a few other layouts for those corner blocks. You do get some interesting effects. I see a heart in one and in the another I love the chain effect. It all depends on the lines you are looking for in your border/corner!
My Blocks to So Far
Here is what my quilt is looking like in Electric Quilt.

I will save the big picture reveal for next week when the top is all together! It is interesting to see it come together and I really like it more each day.
Remember to check out the other hosts choices to see they chose! The list is below – and will direct you to the correct url each week.
