Mrs. Quilty* is a subscription box for quilters that asked me to be an affiliate. I I received the boxes in order to do a review of their service. The fabrics and packaging are quite fun as is the book that accompanies each box. So, let’s take a look at what comes in the subscription box and what I think.
The Concept and the Packaging
Mrs. Quilty asked me to become an affiliate, but I didn’t want to do that for something I had not seen. I asked for a sample and they sent two boxes! I think that was an overly generous response. The boxes change each month (or at least the two I had did). The contents seem to be similar, 12 Fat Quarters, a booklet with a lot of things in it, and some notions. But to give you and idea of what Mrs. Quilty wants to do, let here speak in her own words: “Delivers 12 pieces of classic/modern fabrics (100% cotton), keeps you inspired with a magazine with unique projects and templates and surprises you with a special gift every month!”.
They do this very well. There are still a few mysteries…who is Mrs. Quilty? Why is she doing this. But lets deal with the facts about the boxes. The quilty design is different on each one and quite lovely. I will definitely keep them and use for projects; I consider this a bonus part of the subscription.
Subscription Box 1
Here’s what came in the first box – 12 pieces of fabric, a 6″ ruler and some thread spool wraps and a booklet.
This is what the 33 page booklet has in it this month: a description of the fabrics, the tools and 4 projects to make. There are QR codes with links to videos for each of the projects – really nice. I began to view some of them and think they are excellent. These projects are a block, a pot holder, quilted placemat and a lunch bag project. Most are beginner friendly, but I think the lunch bag project is a little more advanced.
The fabric collection is called Vintage Garden. I can’t find it anywhere on the internet, so I am thinking they are printing their own fabric. Neither box had a selvedge edge on any of the pieces. So, this is kind of a mystery. The hand on all but two, was quite nice. Two of the felt a little stiff to my liking.
Here are the tools or gifts, as they refer to them, from the first box. There is a 6 1/2″ square ruler, that looks like an Omnigrid® ruler, but it is not labeled as such. I did measure it against my mat for accuracy and it seemed perfect.

This fabric collection is called Tribal Garden and I really love the colors and prints. In both boxes I felt like both collections had nice differences in scale and tone. The hand (the way the fabric feels) was more consistent in this grouping.
This month’s gift or notions include a Frixion® marker and a Point turner. Both of these are useful items, but I was a little less excited about them. Frixion® markers will erase with an iron but there are reports of them leaving trace markings…be careful how you use these.
The 29-page booklet contains the descriptions of the items which include the block pattern, two bookmark patterns, a book sleeve pattern, and a reading pillow pattern. Now the point-turner makes more sense, doesn’t it? I should also mention there are links to buy more fabric, but it is not yardage, but more fat quarter collections. It doesn’t appear you can pick more if you need more of a specific print.
Will I Be an Affiliate?
I will try being an affiliate* for a while. Why? The price point on the fabrics and amount is quite good. To me, the boxes are geared toward someone with some sewing knowledge and an adventurous spirit. There is lots of information in the booklet and lots to learn in the projects. I don’t think it will appeal to quilters who have quilted for a long time, therefore, I doubt the affiliation will do much good for me except as gifts to someone who might be early in the journey. My concern about purchasing more of the fabric is real, as we know we often decide we want more. We will see if it calls anyone’s name that reads my blog.

There are a few things I can’t figure out. Who is Mrs. Quilty? Where does the fabric come from? The about section is pretty generic and that seems strange to me. As someone who worked in a fabric store, I am curious about these things. I may ask for more information, but for now, I will live with the unanswered questions.

I am a busy girl through the winter that keeps on giving. SAHRR continues for the next few weeks, there are 3 more prompts to go and a quilt to finish! I was asked by Jennifer of The Inquiring Quilter to be in her new fabric line hop, and am thrilled to be participating. Dust Off a Book Blog Hope happens again, and I think I found a fun oldie but goodie to make. Fat Quarter Shop, too, provided an opportunity to make a quilt and blog about it in April/May. Then there are the baby quilts – 1 to quilt, 2 more to make. So, you can see, I am busy which is good as this winter doesn’t want to stop!

it does look like the boxes are aimed more at beginners or for gifts as you say to those that might want to learn how. Interesting – I have never heard of this product
I have seen ads pop up about Mrs. Quilty as I scroll through Facebook, so that’s about all I know about this company. I am pretty sure their fabric and tools come from China (even if the company is USA based or Canadian based?), since the ruler is a knock off of an Omigrid (a Japanese Company) and those from China that are sold for less are copies of other ruler brands without the names. I have seen a lot of Creative Grid rulers for sale without their name or the gripper dots as well as Omnigrid rulers without the name. Lots of fabric these days are also printed in China as well and since you saw no selvages or couldn’t find online yardage, that might be why? I am not against buying China made goods if they are well made, but if they pirated the rulers and such, then the designers and companies who made them are not getting anything from the sale of these items, which is something to think about. And if this company is a mystery as such, I would question why? As tariffs are being added to goods coming in from China now, that certainly will mean an increase in prices for all kinds of items now. In the long run, maybe more American companies will start making their goods again, instead of relying on China to make them, which would be a good thing for Americans. Greed is what took these American companies (as well as some other countries) to China and elsewhere for bigger profits in the first place.

The box is adorable! I like the second selection of fabrics. But they look like a knock-off of prints from Rifle Paper Co. Cute patterns for small projects in the generous booklet. I appreciated your evaluation of it, Kathleen. Let us know if you find out who Mrs. Quilty is!?!
It’s interesting that they are so vague on who Mrs. Quilty is. That makes me a bit wary. I’ve had a subscription box subscription in the past from another place, and canceled my subscription because I was getting overloaded with precuts and the notions started to lessen in quality. Will be interesting to see what your experience is.
Mrs. Quilty does look for beginners. but the fabrics do look pretty. Those ink markers, although some state that they are for fabric, I’ve read about too many problems and photos of quilts where the marks returned in cooler temperatures. Not my choice for quilt marking.
