Tips and Tutorials on the 22nd – #44 – 2 Tips

Welcome to this month’s edition of Tips and Tutorials on the 22nd where we share our favorite quilting or sewing tips and tutes! September arrived and is nearly over…I am astounded! Some of you know, I am doing some shop hopping and some training for hospice, so that has occupied a lot of my so called free time. The good news is I have a two tips that I am using – one for saving my favorites each month and another for WordPress users. Of course, there are last months links and a few things I wanted to be sure you saw that are also included. Without further ado….let’s get going.

Last Month’s Link Ups

Heart Fruit Form

I am always so grateful for those who link up and I always learn something when I go back to post last month’s links. Here are August’s links.

  • Yvonne’s post on Bonus HSTs and
  • Andrée’s post on Making a Thread Sampler.

Many thanks to all who post…it warms my heart each time I see a new link.

Some Posts that Caught My Eye

Summer is a busy time and moving into fall came up for me so quickly. I made notes of these posts, and thought you might like to take a look at some of them.

  • How to make a hooded towel video.
  • How to make an advent calendar – Part 1 and Part 2.
  • How to get wrinkles out of a shaped object – use an oven mitt as your ironing board (from Clover and Violet). No link available.
  • And some inspiration for Straight Line Quilting.

And now, we will move on to this month’s content.

Two Tips for Blogging

Tip # 1: How to make PDFs of your Favorite Things

Do you ever want to really save a blog post? I do and I get frustrated trying to do it – I have used trying to make it a favorite or bookmark or use Pinterest. Recently I was looking for something in my Pinterest and found the blog was gone. At this point, I began to wonder about a better way.

Another blogger, Mary from Mary Quilts and Making Scrap Quilts from Stash pointed me to this lifesaver (acutally files saver) and now I am sharing it with you.

I am now using something called Print Friendly to save tutorials or tips that I find and I want to keep. I can print to a file and save it in the cloud – in my folder for Quilting – which has many subdivisions (bags, baby, lap quilt, accessories). I put it right where it belongs and I don’t have to worry about where it is.

You can use the web link here OR you can install an extension for your browser (my method). Here is a link for some of them.

This has made it so easy for me to keep things and I do it right when I am reading the blog. If I am on my phone or ipad, I mark the blog unread until I can get back to it and do it.

Tip #2: WordPress Link Help

If you use WordPress, did you notice the option to click “open in a new window” now requires a 3 step process. It is driving me crazy!!!

I prefer all my links open in a new window. Why? I do it so people don’t wind up lost and can’t get back to my blog.

There is a great plug in for this called “Open Links In New Tab”. Boy did this make my editing easier, for this post and subsequent posts. I don’t know why it was changed but it was infuriating!

Join the Linky Party

Now it’s your turn to post, and the rules are simple – write up a tip or group of tips or a tutorial that is quilting or sewing-related and link that post below. The linky party is open from 12:01 am on the 22nd, through midnight on 30th. The post does not have to be new but should be one that hasn’t been linked to Tips and Tutorials in the past. If you don’t have a blog, please send it to me (kathleen@kathleenmcmusing.com) and I will post your tip or tutorial for you!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!
