The Stay At Home Round Robin is winding down; two more weeks of prompts then a few week off to get your top together! Time flies when we make beautiful quilts, doesn’t it. I know you are waiting to hear what Brenda has in store for us, so let’s check it out.
The Fifth Prompt

Prompt: Make a half log cabin! Check out Brenda’s post here.
This is a pretty specific block, but there are a few ways to look at it. As I looked at blocks in Electric Quilt 8 I found a few I thought fit the bill. The first one on the left is courthouse steps and not at all a half log cabin BUT it might hold some inspiration for you. When I chose my block, I never looked at the courthouse steps layout, so it is there as food for thought. The next two block, the basket and flower, both have a half square log cabin….interesting right?

The last block here is a quarter square log cabin and for some reason that is what I always had in mind and that is what I used….oops. Actually, it was just a mistake in my head as I never thought of rectangle for a block. I will be interested to see what some of the others hosts did.
My Block

Here’s my block, and really it is a quarter square log cabin! I made 12, to fit in the corners.

Now, I do get a half log cabin on either side – the way I laid it out in the outer border. So, it works!

Just for entertainment, I wanted to show you a few other layouts for those corner blocks. You do get some interesting effects. I see a heart in one and in the another I love the chain effect. It all depends on the lines you are looking for in your border/corner!
My Blocks to So Far
Here is what my quilt is looking like in Electric Quilt.

I will save the big picture reveal for next week when the top is all together! It is interesting to see it come together and I really like it more each day.

I like your choice. You actually have a 3/4 log cabin in each corner of your design. It will be fun to see your actual quilt.
How neat to have all those choices for your block, and I love yours!
Love your layout design! Those blocks are perfect for the corners.
I really like the way you chose to make the quarter log cabins frames in the corners of your quilt. And like you said, the way you put the quarters together creates a half anyway!
Love your version of this prompt. The log cabin blocks make great corners!
Easy block with loads of options! Thanks for showing the corner treatment considerations – very generous of you. Looking forward to finish the sewing my Round 3 and get started on Round Four.
Oops, Kathleen, I spoke incorrectly in my previous post. I should have mentioned am looking forward to sewing Round 4 to my top and get started on your Round 5. So many exciting ideas floating around – hard to keep track of them all!
There are so many ways to use a log cabin block (and construct it!). Your choice looks great with your quilt!
Love your blocks!!! AND I continue to love the colours you’re using!!! It’ll be fun to see the top next week!
That split block border is very attractive as well as meeting the prompt challenge. This quilt is going to be a great success. I like the idea of making blocks and having the option of rearranging the choices in the assembly process. And your arrangement of the log cabin quarters sparks my imagination. Thanks Kathleen
Again, great ideas and diagrams here Kathleen, thank you. I’ve been percolating, but not a lot has come up with focusing on PQ up until today.
Your quilt is looking great so far! I love all of the layout options that a log cabin block presents.
Great plan for this “round”, Kathleen!
Love what you have designed for this round, Kathleen! Also, very cool to see the corner options that you shared! 🙂
Great minds, Kathleen! Love your corner blocks.
I absolutely LOVE how you used these blocks to frame your corners!!!
