March is so many things, but the birds in our area begin to get more active every time there is a warmer day. As we make this block we are 1/4 of the way through this Block of the Month – just like that! And, just like that, the world has changed a lot since this color challenge started. Nonetheless, I am happy to share March’s 2020 Monthly Color Challenge Blocks from Patterns by Jen. I am grateful for my avocation at this time, as I am sure you are.

The oriole is a perfect bird for this month’s color – orange. Now, I thought about adding in black as it seems as much a part of the orange, but when you see this picture there are shades of orange and that is what I used. I wish I would see them in our backyard, but I believe you need to put out something sweet like jelly to attract them. I am thinking of having a hummingbird feeder this year so maybe I will add this too!

As usual, her directions are impeccable. I had this done in February so why it took me so long to post is beyond me, but here it is! I know I had two trips, some recuperation time then some getting into the quarantine time. I just didn’t feel like writing. I think I am back in my groove so blog entries should be more regular and timely. Thank you for your patience.

orange is my favorite color — I love seeing everyone’s blocks!
It sure is fun isn’t it! I am using all the same fabric line, so sometimes the choices are a bit funky but it will all work!
Hi Kathleen! I am pretty sure grape jelly attracts the Oriole. I almost put out the hummingbird feeder yesterday but then looked online and saw they suggest mid-April for Wisconsin. So I’ll wait a few weeks and then get it out there. I love the oranges you chose to represent – the variances in the bird pictured are just amazing. And just like that, we’re a quarter finished. WOW! Stay healthy and safe, my friend. ~smile~ Roseanne
I know it was a fast first quarter, and I need to check up on linking up my quarterly goals. I haven’t been doing the instagram piece on it and now need to. I hope you are well. So far we are and hoping that spring starts early. I definitely think I will put out feeders – last year I didn’t see as many hummingbirds in my backyard, so maybe they need more enticing.
Both grape jelly and orange halves attract the orioles here. I cannot wait for their arrival; they are my favorite birds. I need to get my March block done! All my days are smudging together, so the month end has crept up on me! I like your block with those pretty oranges!
Thanks for the info! I do think I might try, as I love seeing birds in my garden. The days are smudging together here, too.

Another great block. How lovely it would be to have some orioles regularly visiting you this spring. I had never heard of this bird.
