2025 SAHRR – Sixth Round

The last prompt will be revealed today for the Stay At Home Round Robin. This is exciting because you will also see many of our tops, to inspire you to finish yours. The creativity astounds me! So let’s see what Emily came up with for a prompt and see what some options might be. I love the block I chose and hope you find one you love, too.

The Sixth Prompt

Prompt: Make a Kite Block! Check out Emily’s post here.

The kite block is pretty familiar and one which I did not find a lot of alternatives. Above you can see the first one I found. I worked with this block for a long time. I then searched a little harder in Electric Quilt* and came up with some of these blocks.

The top two are pretty traditional kits, and there are also appliqué kites. s. The second one in the top row gives a little more room around the kite so it can fly. If I were using it, I would adjust it a little more, but I moved on from that one. For my quilt, I wanted something that fit a little more with the my other blocks. The ones in the bottom row are from Block Base*, one of the add on programs for Electric Quilt. The first is called Flying Kites, and the second is called Star Kites. I actually added a line on the second for easier piecing.

My Block

Here is my finished block. I really had fun making it, I did just use the rotary cutting instructions and it worked out well.

And here are the two of them together! Our days have been a little grey, so the light is not perfect.

Remember to check out the other hosts choices to see they chose! The list is below – and will direct you to the correct url each week (after I grab them – usually be 10 am).

My Quilt Top Revealed

Here is what my quilt top looks like in Electric Quilt. I never loaded the exact fabrics, so you will see some difference in what I did.

And, here it is in real life! I can’t wait to quilt it. I am still pondering what exactly I will do, a pantograph or custom quilting. I have one quilt and two small pieces to finish before this gets on the frame, so I have some time to think. I think this one may work well with an overall pattern this year, but we will see if that feeling holds.

  1. I made an entire quilt of those blocks when I was into Stack ‘n Whack. It’s a great block and I’m betting you constructed it the way Bethany Reynolds does hers. There sure have been some interesting prompts to push us a little bit this year and I like that! Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous.

Great finished top, Kathleen!!! I can’t wait to see how you quilt it, when it’s time comes up!

Kathleen, Could the block you vhose be constructed in a 4 1/2″ size? I think it would be a good choice for my fina; prompt. Thanks
