This panel quilt is one that I have had for a really long time, but I am happy to say that it is in a finished quilt! I was going to use a pattern than I made previously, but decided to make a very simple quilt that could be used to practice quilting corners and borders. You can do this with any panel and it will be well loved! The pattern is really simple, I added a 1 1/2” border, and a 6 1/2” border to all sides. It came out to a nice size of just about 40″x 60″.
What seems like a very long time ago, I too a borders class from Megan Best, whose fabulous work you can see at BestQuilter. She teaches a great class on using Prostitcher and Prostitcher Designer to make a fairly accurate border. I had tried this a few times before but I was never entirely happy with what I did. Her technique is awesome and gets you nearly perfect borders. I like being able to do custom, but it is not fast.
I used a light grey thread that blended well, and was happy that it looks a bit like a whole cloth quilt on the back.
I really enjoyed using the designs that I chose for this quilt. The first two, well actually three, are from the ProStitcher Library. The first one was a graphic straight line stipple that would just blend into the background of the panel. The second had two parts, the alternating loop and the corner piece. These are important in having it look like the quilting is a continuous line. The last design is from Anne Bright Designs. She does a fabulous job with the corners and this one worked like a charm. I know these circles will appear often in narrow borders.
I need to work a little harder on getting right to the edge but this was all much more consistent than my prior attempts. I have another one of these panels and may do the exact same thing, but working toward more precision.
This is a part of my #wipsbegone2021 with Leanne of Devoted Quilter. I missed One Monthly Goal this month (again) but I have 3 finishes which I am very pleased about. It seems like sometime since I have been posting them. Next week includes plans to work on those placemats as well as finish the Social Justice Sewing Academy block. It is due around November 1, so I have to push through some of the difficulties and find a way to make it work. Wish me luck!

To me, the quilting is perfect and I find it would be hard quilting to the edge since you have to factor in the binding, right? I love this panel and can’t remember if there’s one somewhere in my stash. Thanks for sharing the process which is overwhelming for me.

What a wonderful finish, Kathleen! You did a great job getting your loops smooth and consistent, which is something I find difficult on my regular sewing machine. Whoever gets it will be thrilled.
