SAHRR Weeks 1 and 2

I hopped on board and joined in the SAHRR (Stay at Home Round Robbin) from Gail of Quilting Gail. I have linked up to the intro blog entry so you could see what this is all about. You could do this anytime, and Gail is pretty flexible and you don’t have to do every round.

My deicision was to used my Mariner’s Compass block that I designed for the Partners In Design QAL by the Sea this summer. I have 2 blocks that are similar. I kept the other block in case it wants to play too, but time will tell. Right now, I am content working with the teal and purple compass.

Week 1: Piano Keys
Chris of ChrisKnits was the host for the first week. My keys did not extend to the border. I don’t envision doing all the rounds so, I thought I would see what Week 2 was before committing to the keys in the corner. I had enough fabric if I needed it, but I did not use it.

Week 2: Plus Blocks
Emily from Darling Dogwood was the host for the second week. I decided to do a narrow plus block on point and think it was perfect choice.

I’m keeping this brief in order to get it posted before the deadline!

A compass on an old ship, and X marks the spot on an old map!!!

This is such a great block for a center square, and I like how the plus blocks set on point mirror the mariner points (in a way). Thanks for sewing along with us!

Kathleen, I love your mariner’s compass center with the piano keys and on point plus blocks in the corner. I think you chose very well!!

Love how you are interpreting this QAL! Your compass is gorgeous.

WOWEE, Kathleen! I just LOVE how this piece is coming together. Your center medallion is stunning on its own but those piano keys and plus sign blocks in the corners really highlight it so nicely. Thanks for joining in and playing along. Today you can add some flying geese if you’re so inclined. ~smile~ Roseanne

So smart to use that Mariner’s block as the center. It is way too pretty to leave on the shelf. So far, so great!!

Love this!!!!! The colors are fabulous and I love that mariner’s compass block. Turning your plus signs on point was brilliant! And I like their skinny-ness too. This is going to be very pretty. I’m so glad you are playing along!

Your SAHRR looks fantastic! The mariner’s compass is a perfect centre. And I like the innovative way you added the plus blocks!
Looking forward to seeing your next round!
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

I love Mariner’s Compass blocks and yours is a beauty. I really like how you turn the plus blocks on an angle in the corners. This is a fun QAL to watch!

So pretty. I love the compass star so much.

How clever you are! I thought about turning my plus blocks but at that point I was tired of even thinking about it – lol! Everything is so cohesive and looks so pretty, and I love that center block as well as the colors.

I just love everything about your round-robin quilt so far. It would be a cute wall hanging or table topper just as it is.
