Patriotic Table Runner & Coasters

Leftovers are always a problem for every quilter, and I had some after finishing my last quilt. Guess what, I decided to make a few other quick things with my leftover fabric. In my stash, lurked this fun pattern and I brought it on retreat with me. After I finished that, I had another quick make and used up some more pieces…now I am feeling super efficient and it is just about a month since I have come back and I have finished them!

The Pattern

I used a pattern called Crazy Stars from Villa Rosa Designs. This is a fun runner to make, especially from leftovers. I cut all my pieces into the required size squares and then followed the instructions. It was a fast make. Honestly, it has taken me longer to write about it than to make the runner!

Quilting and Finishing

For a pantograph, I wanted something like wind, but not wind. I used a pattern called Rolling Along from ProStitcher. In the first picture below, you can see that repeating does something less than ideal . BUT, if you make a duplicate first, then flip it, then rotate it, you get a design that repeats in a more interesting way. This was much more to my liking!

Here it is plotted across a picture of the pattern, much darker but it gives you a good idea. I used Glide white in the top and beige in the bobbin to quilt it. I like that I have a whole cloth quilt on the reverse side.

I thought it would fun for someone for the 4th of July, or any patriotic holiday. Here it is sort of in the front of the house, with my wonderful quilt holder husband.

And here it is a little closer and with some editing.

And here are a few in my kitchen, showing you the front and back.

I really like the quilting on it, here are a few close ups so you can see it.

Coasters – A Bonus Project

I made some of these coasters with the leftovers and will make a few more this week. Isn’t that fun! I had a patttern from a shop hop but here is a link to someone who has a few different kinds of coasters. The second pattern is very similar to what I did. For mine, I did use batting and as I was finishing these projects cut some of the pieces into 5″ squares. I still have some leftovers and a sewing date with a friend Friday morning and will make a few more! They are so fast.

Now, I had intended to put this on the blog a bit sooner, but had to locate the coasters in the retreat pile!

Villa Rosa has such fun and fast designs! The quilting pattern you used looks a bit like a waving flag to me.

Kathleen your runner turned out so, so pretty! Is that minkee on the back? I absolutely love the quilting on it, it reminds me of a flag. Nice finish! Enjoy your 4th of July. :)

Quick table runners are so fun to make, and this one is so good, and right in time or the 250th! The quilting design was perfect, and I enjoyed seeing your quilt holder helping out! Happy 4th if we don’t chat before then!

Coasters are one of my favorite fast makes and are always handy to have ready to use or gift. And I love how the quilting compliments your table runner; I’m glad you were able to modify the stitch path to work better for your needs!

I just revisited this post. My question–how in the world is Jonathan holding that quilt up?!?
