We are officially at the midpoint of the SAHRR! I love watching the progress and seeing all the wonderful ways our participants are using our prompts. This week you will shine with your choices once again, so let’s find out what Gail’s prompt is!
The Third Prompt
Prompt: Use Stars in your block! Check out Gail’s post here.
Here are some blocks that I found in Electric Quilt 8, that I liked:

Row 2: Star Variation, Variable Star, Garden Patch Variety, Old Snowflake
Stars are everywhere in quilting and you will no doubt have fun finding one to make for your round. Now, what did I do?
My Block

Here’s my block – Sarah’s Choice – well at least the one I started with. I was going to use a different block, my North Star, but I used that as a center last year, so I changed my mind. Again. That seems to be the theme of this SAHRR. Even though I have some “prior knowledge” of the prompts, I am constantly switching up my plan. However, you will see in a moment that this was not my final decision!

My hint this week is that for Half Square Triangles, I use the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer*. I like that I can trim everything – each side, and the “dog ears” with one placement of the ruler. I press afterwards and am very happy with this. It really does save time as it is one positioning. And when I realized I had to make 16 more triangles, I was not so disheartened since I knew the trimming would be fast.

What happened? I was dutifully making two blocks: cut it out, sewed the triangles, pressed the triangles and it was too small! I cut it for an 8″ block not a 12″ block. What should I do? I decided to use the pieces and make it a different star and save my work. This round wanted to challenge me, as it was not the end of my trouble. A few pieces were flipped the wrong way as I cleverly webbed the first block. Some surgical seam ripping, and the errors were remedied. The good news is that the second blocked worked up flawlessly.

Here they both are! One has the dark points repeated and one does not. I think I link the one with more variety more, but time to move on to the next block.
Other Resources
It you are looking for other blocks, here are a few resources. I will keep this here another week but if you have other resources you want to share, let me know and I will add them!

Beautiful blocks Kathleen – glad you were able to work it out!
I like those star blocks, they work well with the rest of your quilt!
Some blocks really make us work for them don’t they? I am glad that it was easy to upsize the Sarah’s Choice block into the size you needed and I think the extra border looks great with it.
Your quilt is going to be SEW gorgeous, Kathleen!
Stars are always my favorite! Your quilt looks great.
I like all of the stars. I’m enjoying watching everyone’s progress on this year’s SAHRR. Happy stitching!
Both star blocks look wonderful. Your quilt is really going to be beautiful.
I love these stars! And I don’t remember if I’ve already said this, but I absolutely LOVE your fabrics and colors! So pretty!
Your blocks are looking great. I like doing a different layout. ☺
