This month is a bit scattered, but I today sharing my 2nd Quarter finishes from WIPS-B-Gone 2022 today. I finished them almost 2 weeks ago (as this quarter is nearly done), but never blogged about them. Without further ado, let’s take a look at them.
A Baby Quilt

I made a quilt very like this one last year. It went to one of my son’s coworkers and you can read all about it here. I bought quite a few of these as my son’s friends are all getting married and there is nothing more that I love than making a baby quilt.

I like to add this little label to my quilts but I was binding it all by machine. I attached it to the back, then sewed it to the front. Notice the binding clip that strategically held the label from getting caught in the sewing down the front!

This was my first time using flannel on a baby quilt and I really like the way it behaved. You can see the pantographs I used: SquigE2E (Prostitcher), Circle Border (My Creative Stitches) and Blooms (Prostitcher). I had two concerns with Blooms. 1) There was a little space at the top and I should have created a row of stitching for it. 2) It had a corner piece but it didn’t work as well as some other corner pieces I have used. I would not use this design that way again.

For quilting threads, I used my SoFine #403 and #402. One was just a little lighter and worked perfectly in the animal panel – not overwhelming it. The batting was Quilters Dream Select 100% Cotton*, which is my favorite. It still needs to be washed, but I am very pleased to have this done.
A Pouch

This little zip was a part of the Kimberbell series early this year (Dealer Exclusive February 2022 project). I hadn’t used the embroidery part of my sewing machine, a Bernina 570, in some time, so I wanted to make myself get back to some of the projects I have stashed. This was very easy to make and I am glad to count this among my finished projects. I have a few more to do and am thinking I should declare one week in January an embroidery week!
A Zipper Challenge

I wanted to make a bag for my cross-stitch project (here). Clover and Violet was running a zipper pouch challenge so I hopped on and used her instructions. I have made many bags like this, but it was fun to play along! Mine is much bigger than many of the zips made due to the size of the frame I am using. One of the other fun things I did was use a leftover block and favorite fabrics to complement the block and for the lining.

The only thing I should have done was include a strap! I may go back and add one, but haven’t quite decided on that yet.

Some winnings!

I am so pleased to share two recent wins. First, a big thanks to Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts who is celebrating her anniversary of blogging. I won 5 gorgeous patterns and am really tempted my Moose Buffalo Plaid! My second win is a total delight! Thanks to Carole and her Autumn Jubilee at From My Carolina Home and Kimberly of the Fat Quarter Shop* I have lovely gift certificate to spend. I was sewing along with the October Support Group* working on a cross-stitch project and think some extra notions for this new craft will be in my upcoming order.

You had some fun projects finishing up! Nice wins, too – that moose quilt is very fun, but I do like the cats, too!
Hi Kathleen! Wow – what a fun post. I adored that baby quilt the first time and it’s even more fun this time. I love the sweet red polka dot/star binding. It will be something the baby can focus on all the beautiful colors while being covered in your love. Congrats on the wins! Oh yes to the buffalo plaid. That is on my short mental hurry-up-and-do list. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
You are indeed a busy woman Kathleen. Lots of fun happening in your studio. Yours is a sweet baby quilt. I’m curious as to how your layers are loaded on the long arm. Is there something that keeps the area closest to the viewer taut while stitching? Thanks
Wonderful finishes, Kathleen! Congratulations on your wins. I think you will have a blast with those new patterns, especially that moose! It’s sew cute!! Looks like you are having fun with the cross stitch too! Have a great week! See you on the hop!
Congrats on your wins and congrats on more finishes! The bags look great and that baby quilt is just so sweet.
What cute border print on that baby quilt, Kathleen!!1 Awesome job on the quilting, too! Great finishes!!!
Some great project Kathleen. They all look great. The pouch is perfect I like it’s bigger size. Yeah you for a couple of great wins!!
That baby quilt is such fun, cute panel and bright colors! Great projects this week. I hope you have fun shopping for your new goodies at FQS!! Congratulations on your win, and thank you for mentioning my annual Autumn Jubilee.
I love your posts Kathleen! That baby quilt is so, so pretty, and the bag is adorable, especially the lining! Yay on your wins and YES on that buffalo plaid!
Great finishes, Kathleen! I bet it feels good, too! I ‘ve made market bags with leftover blocks…I think it is almost time for me to make some more. Congrats on the wins, too! My favorite is the fox in the trees! 🙂
Nice finishes!!! The baby quilt is very cute! I often use flannel on the back and find it’s cozy for the baby!
Happy Quilting!
Oooh, congratulations on your fun winnings recently. My mom loves using flannel to back baby quilts, and it sounds like it has your ringing endorsement as well. Might be time I consider giving it a try, too!
Lots of great finishes. I love how you used the block on the front of the bag. Congratulations on your winnings!
Hi Kathleen, what a cute baby quilt. Panels are just perfect for making baby quilts, aren’t they? Both of your pouches are lovely. It’s fun to use up a left over block – it looks great! Thanks for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks.
Hi Katleen
I adore the baby quilt. Can you give me the name of the panel? My nephew will be a father soon and this would make an adorable quilt. Thanks! Love all of your projects.
I love that panel quilt, Kathleen. SEW much fun for the child! Congrats on completing the pouches. Enjoy your winnings!
