Do you ever find a fabric you love, but aren’t sure you need another quilt? Or, did you spy some great fabric on sale for Halloween, but don’t need another quilt? Are you tired of bringing a bottle of wine to a dinner party and want something more personal? This is the answer!

I love making these napkins. You will too – the hardest part is prepping the fabric. I made two sets of 4 napkins the other day. It took two hours of sewing time…not bad right! I use napkins like this every day, and they last forever!
Napkins

This was my porch on Saturday. We have a great thing called an art walk on the island, 3 or 4 times a year. This was the first one I participated in this summer, due to my darned ankle.

I was determined to have a few new things to show, and I did. I loved these picnic napkins in the watermelon and sky blue (they didn’t sell). I knew the blue lobster ones would, and regret not having more of that fabric. I bought the fabric at a show in April, for this purpose and was glad to finish them. There will be a tutorial at the end of the month on how to make them, so simple for great housewarming gifts. They are 17″ square when finished, no fancy seaming, just turned inside out, and then pressed and sewn around the edges.
The good news is that I do have a little stash of scraps. Who knows what kind of table topper might appear for the next sale?
One Monthly Goal

It is time for me to finish this quilt! It needs binding; which is cut but not sewn together and a proper label. It will be delivered to its owner in early October so it is time to get back to it. When it’s done there will be a longer blog post on it, but this blog post has a little information on it.

Great idea on the napkins. We use cloth napkins here too. I never thought of whippping up some of my own . Thanks!
Good morning Kathleen. It’s an early fall day here in Nova Scotia, and the wind is off the water this morning, so white caps are the order of the day, probably no swim. This morning I plan to make a banana bread, and a pumpkin block, but the idea of creating cloth napkins appeals. I’ll be with you on the 22nd.
sounds like fun displaying quilts on the porch. and a nice porch for relaxing too it looks like
The art walk sounds so fun to both participate in and walk too;) Love those watermelon napkins.
Cute cloth napkins, Kathleen! How often do you wash them? (The ones you keep, I mean). And how many sets do you need?
Oh, yes, love your front porch quilt show, too!!!!
How big are the napkins? Are they double sided or French seamed?

They are about 16.5″ square when sewn, double sided and turned inside out and sewn around the edges.
What a fun post – I use cloth napkins daily as well. Less wasted paper!
Looks like you had a fun art walk show! So glad you were able to participate in this one and your ankle is doing better! Love the napkin idea as a hostess gift!
Your porch looks so festive with all the lovely quilts! It would’ve been fun to be there and wander the art show. I’ll be watching for the napkin tutorial. I like to make my own, too.
Kathleen your napkins are pretty! I know several who use cloth napkins and I have never made any – I really need to remedy that. Oh I do so love that commission quilt – looking forward to your lengthier post about it. How is your ankle feeling?
Kathleen that sounds like great fun. Hope you had a chance to see a few of the neighbors and their items. I made a few napkins earlier this year and have stopped using paper. Need to make a few more.
So glad that you were able to participate this time, Kathleen. LOVE those cloth napkins!
Oooh I love that lobster fabric and the watermelon too! Fabric napkins are such a great idea!
What fun, having your own little pop up gallery! I should use fabric napkins, but just never got around to making any.
Love those napkins (and the fabrics) Kathleen. Your porch looks so happy and inviting with your lovely quilts on display. I’m so glad you are back to sewing and inspiring us.
What a happy porch! So glad you got to participate and that you’re back to sewing. 🙂
