Our 2025 Stay at Home Round Robin (SAHRR) begins today January 13th and runs until February 24th. We post prompts each week and encourage quilters to make a quilt. The final quilts are proudly paraded on March 24th. So, let’s get our creative minds working and maybe pick up and abandoned block and make it into a quilt!
What Should I Consider?
When choosing your block, here are a few things to consider.
- Do you like the block? You will be working with it a lot over the next few weeks!
- Do you have fabric to go with the block, especially background or more of the feature fabric? If you are doing a good size quilt, you will need a good half yard of a few lights, mediums and darks. Your background could need 2 yards or even more. Of course, they can be various shades too, so there are lots of opportunities for creativity.
- How big do you want your quilt to be? You could be adding 6 rows/borders all around…8″ + 6 borders of 4″ gets you to a 56″ square quilt, so think about that a little. It is one of the reasons I often combine two prompts and make cornerstones one week and blocks for the border another week. I have a limitation on my quilting frame so I will try to keep mine at less than 50″ wide!
- What might you do with it? Who is going to get it and how will it be used – a wall hanging, a baby quilt or a quilt for your bed?
- Will it hold your interest? When we work on things like this, there are unexpected challenges. Fall in love with it, as you will be working with it for awhile.
Here is the slideshow of my last SAHRR quilts. Look at the center and see what I did on each keeping these questions in mind.
What Should I Do Now??
Pick a block or two. Pull some fabric. Take a picture and link up with us. That is all you need to do to play along. Feel free to ask questions, we love chatting with our readers!
Please link up on Gail’s Post. In order to qualify to enter for prizes from our sponsors, we need to know who you are and how to contact you. It is best to link with a blog or Instagram. If you do not have either, feel free to send me your round each week, I’ll post it on my blog and enter you into the drawing.
My Center Block

I am using this block as my center. I think my blocks will be 12 1/2″, so I need to add a border to this block – it is a little short for that.

I also thought you might like to see my collection of fabrics. I have lots of batiks in the teal and blues and I think this will all work. Right now my plan is one block for the center, and make 2 blocks for each prompt. The last set may be 6″ or 8″. I am thinking of a 9 block quilt with a pieced border of the last two rounds! Let’s see if that plan holds.

Love your block, and your fabrics are so pretty!
What a fun block for your center! I’ll enjoy watching this quilt progress!
Love your color choice and the interesting center block. I can see a typical “Kathleenish” quilting design like a “typical handwriting” in the slideshow of your SAHRR quilts. And I fall to my knees because you are an exactly accurate perfect sewer and quilter. And like you each of us finds her typical “handwriting” – to do a quilt. The next weeks will be an inspirational quilt journey!
Oh, I like that you aren’t sticking to a strict round robin layout, Kathleen. I look forward to seeing how it comes together for you this year!
Love your center block, Kathleen! It looks so fun and such pretty colors.
Your center block and color selections promise to become a lovely quilt!
Excellent suggestions, Kathleen! You selected a lovely block and it appears that you have a good set of fabrics to expand that block into a quilt. Best of luck to you!
I was just looking back at your previous SAHRR projects. I LOVED the red cardinal quilt. It was such a beauty. I haven’t yet decided if I am participating yet but it is tempting!
Fun slideshow, Kathleen! Your block holds a lot of possibilities!!!
I enjoyed your slideshow and I like your centre for this year – really pretty fabrics 🙂
Love your centre block!!! And, as always, I enjoy reading all your tips on making the SAHRR!! Thank you!
It is going to be fun to watch how this progresses, Kathleen! Love your block choice and fabrics! 🙂
Great choice for the center block. Those fabrics are really pretty.
Kathleen your block is so much fun and the fabric choices are perfect! Looking forward to seeing your quilt grow.
That’s a great block. Happy sewing.
You’ve selected a nice block. I’m hoping to join for SAHRR the first time.
Your center block looks fabulous. Looking forward to seeing your 1st round choice.
