This little quilt is part of my commitment to make some charity quilts and this is for one of the Hands2Help charities for 2022. I started making the scrap blocks as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and used the first two colors to make this small quilt. It seems that time is moving quickly so I wanted to make sure that I got started before May showed up on my calendar! There is a pattern for the blocks on my Tips and Tutorials page for this month if you like it.
I love the way the blocks interact and make two distinct designs…the ring and the diamond. The paths that are created by the background, I also find very pleasing. I am thinking of a design to quilt for the next one; we’ll see if that comes to fruition.
I have to say, unwinding the quilt once it is quilted is always one of my favorite things to do. Here you can admire it on the frame.
The quilting pattern is from Darlene Epp and is called “All Over Texture Two”. For this quilt, I felt an open pattern would be nice to make it a snuggly quilt for a little one.
The backing was a bright red, that worked nicely. In this picture the binding looks to be a much brighter blue, but it really is more like you will see in the photo below. For the backing, I tried the border print but didn’t love it, and was not going to go looking for new fabric – I am using my stash or trying to for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. It is funny, as I don’t often bind in a simple solid, but this teal worked well with this quilt.
