Awesome Ocean Fabric Selections

Island Batik Ocean Oddyssey 2018 Spring Summer

I am so excited about this little Sew Along that I am spearheading. You can see some of the details here and of course at the bottom of the page. This is the second Elizabeth Hartman pattern I am making and I am already in love with it. In fact, I have stashed the pattern for 3 years and the fabric for almost two until the right baby came along! There is a baby coming for which this quilt will be made.

I made two Fancy Forrest quilts and loved them. They were made from many of the same fabrics, but if you look closely you will see some differences. I studied the pattern and choose a teal and clay colorway for the first one. You can find out a little more about this quilt here.

The second I added in some purple for the thistles and some fabrics that brought that color into the teal/clay colors. I also wanted the firefly to have a lit behind, so that was yellow. All in all, I wanted to make some of the blocks a little more realistic. You can see more about this quilt here.

What did I learn? Here are a few things:
1. There are 4 baby quilts on the front pattern, so look at each distinct quilt and her colorways. Here they are oranges/browns and green/blues.
2. The inside front page (#2) has a lot of information on the colors.
3. This is almost like a sampler so the more fabric, the better!
4. Large scale patterns will get lost
5. If your background is light, you may tend toward not using the white in the fish and the bubbles. I am putting a sticky on those pages now!

Whip Cream

My background is this, so pulling in some blues/greens with my bright colors will work just fine. I may even use a blue for the bubbles for the fish and will mark this to make sure that I have a little contrast between the white pieces and the background. I did create a pinterest board and will add to it over the next few days….it is here.

Again, here are the details, and ask if you have questions! You can get the pattern from my amazon affiliate link* or from  the designer directly or in your local store.  This schedule is when I will post the block (or a few guest hosts – hooray). You then have two weeks to do yours so you have plenty of time to get going. For instance, I will post Block 1 on November 23, so you can aim to have block one done by December 7. I will keep linky parties open for a year so you can post pictures whenever.
