It feels so good to have a finish! This week has been a lot of fits and starts – waiting for deliveries, for people to come and do something at our cottage, for us to get the windows washed (with doors it numbers just over 40 (all tilt in) and installed between 2012 and 2017-they deserve some respect. I finally finished this one and not without its ups and downs. It is funny – it is photographed upside down too! I am having a reversal problem these days
- I sewed one block backwards
- On another project, I just couldn’t get the reverse right
- On this I can’t even photograph it correctly.
I adore the fabrics. Blueberry Park & Grunge and a great neutral I have saved for years.
The QAL is still going @mmmquilts.com. It is pretty easy and I really enjoyed it. Sandra does one great job hosting – this is the second one of hers I did. Last years was a you can see that here. I hope to have mine finished by July 5….we’ll see if the quilting gods are cooperating.

Hi Kathleen,
I wonder if it’s the moon cycle or something, because I have been having difficulty this week as well. Enough so that I stayed out of the sewing room both Monday and Tuesday. It remains to be seen if I’ll pop in there tonight after work! Your Plus looks fabulous – I adore Grunge and it really makes the other pluses sing. Gorgeous! Happy Wednesday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Yup, there’s definitely something in the air. Quilts and camera have all both been fighting me all day! Your PP piece looks great, lots of fun fabrics and the contrast really shows both the small and large pluses very well.
Well, I can’t tell it’s upside down at all. It looks great! 🙂
Is this the first time you’ve ever shared photos of your Plus Playtime Quilt? I had no idea you were using Blueberry Park fabrics and I love it. Maybe the Gods were punishing you for keeping this wonderful flimsy a secret–who’s the Shadow Quilter now? The Grunge Blue is perfect; it makes all of the colors pop. P.S. I forgive you, I don’t know about the Gods though. hee hee hee
Oh Kathleen, it is stunning, and no one, not even me, the designer, would have noticed it was upside down…maybe that will end up being the right side up, as it’s a square so can go any which way…how about tumbling pluses?! If that is a sneak peek of your cottage, I’m in love!
Thank you for quilting along this second year with me! Oh and yeah the moon which was full yesterday must be causing some sewing issues here too because my third plus quilt with Alison Glass fabrics? Couldn’t get the 1/4″ seam allowance consistent on the Featherweight which like NEVER happens, so the top row ended up being about 3/4″ narrower than rows 2 and 3, thought I could just ease it in…no, it bugs me too much, so I started yesterday resewing the seams, like 1/16″ in, some not even that, but as you know, multiply by 1/16 by 16 seams and you’re out an inch…grr.
I wasn’t really too concerned but it did crack me up. I’ll take a side by side and see what happens. Oh, it is a sneak peak of the cottage. I’ll try to do some more at some random times, just for fun.
I was glad to participate in the QAL with the Shadow Quilter!
Its really funny but someone else agreed too. I think it must have been the moon. Seams can be so annoying – I thought I might have the same problem as I did some on my Bernina (MA machine) and some on the janome (ME machine). Only one was off and I did the “take it in a bit” trick. Sorry yours wasn’t working.
Hopefully, things are turning. My chairs came in, the electrician showed up yesterday, so maybe the tides are turning. Now if the rug, fabric and gardener all show up, I know it really would be true!
Beautiful quilt! The crosses flow so nicely inside the quilt! Lovely.
Thanks, Zafira. I really love this pattern and the fabrics.
Your quilt is so pretty! I love Blueberry park, but I don’t own any!
Vicki, I think you may need to remedy that situation, and find some Blueberry Park. I believe some new ones are out on the market.
It looks so great, Kathleen! I can see the background plus sign so clearly on your version. And love the Blueberry park. I’m using some myself in some baby quilts right now.
Isn’t Blueberry Park fun! I found some at a quilt show just for this project and really loved it. The scraps will be pieced on the back with the white background – then to see if I can quilt it in time for the “deadline”.
It’s awesome Kathleen. Is there really an upside down? I think both ways can be rightside up.
There is – but its pretty insignificant – and really it can go anyway you like. I love it and am very pleased with the way it turned out.
I absolutely love the fabric you used and how this came together! The navy/white “background” is fabulous!
It was fun finally using this fabric I hordes for so long.
Such a beautiful quilt! I love it! Also your new website is beautiful!!! <3 <3 <3
It was really fun to make. Now to make funky friend and quilt the mod baby, but first a minor trip back to Massachusetts for one of those silly procedures everyone of a certain age gets to do. The website is coming along, still not nailing subscribers but working on it!
I have a FQ bundle of Blueberry Park and it is waiting for the right project. It looks good in your Playtime Plus quilt! Congrats on a gorgeous finish! Thanks for sharing on Main Crush Monday. 🙂
Happy to share! Peacoat grunge is the blue and I am in love with it. Blueberry park worked well with the plus quilt!
I like the darker blue in places. It makes the quilt look sunspeckled, even without the sun. =)
I agree. Moda grunge in peacock did a lovely job on this quilt!
I really like the big plus behind all the litle ones. Great design. Do you have a quilting plan yet?
I don’t have the plan for quilting just yet. I am at our cottage where sandwiching a quilt is harder. I am thinking it may go to a longarmer or wait until I can properly sandwich. I am afraid that decision has to come first (as well as piecing the back)
What a beautiful version of Sandra’s quilt, Kathleen. Thanks for sharing it the right way up for the Southern Hemisphere. 😉
I love your top. It’s always difficult when life gets in the way of sewing! The moon only bothers me at night…keeps me awake. I wondered how stripes would look in this quilt and I think they work wonderfully. They add so much interest.
Thanks, Rochelle. Sorry to be a bit late in responding. The stripes do work well and it all depends on how you cut them. I decided not to worry but on the longer strips you don’’t have the ability to turn it around. Hope you do it sometime!
