This is my fourth finished quilt this year and I am happy to share another cozy baby quilt with you. This is part of my “stock” of quilts to have when there is someone that is looking to buy a quilt or someone I need to send a quilt to. Now, truth be told there are two more baby quilts to be made in the next few months, a second baby from one of my son’s frat brothers and a niece. No plan yet, but after this I will start thinking about it.
Finishing this quilt
This is the first of the two quilts that I made with these Eric Carle panels. Both of the quilt tops were done in January. The delay in finishing was partially due to needing backs, but also SAHRR keeps me very busy, so I didn’t get to this one until now. I finished quilt #1 in March and this is quilt #2. You will see one is a light background for the panel and this finish has a dark background.
Here is the quilt on design wall at the retreat center. Like the other, it finished at 34 x 53. The backing is a lovely flannel, white with primary color letters. But first, lets talk about the quilting.
For quilting, I used a pattern called Tiger Stripes form Prostitcher designs. I also have another one, with the same name, from Christy Dillon at My Creative Stitches. When I went to find the name I was entirely confused as the second one pupped up first. I choose this pattern as it felt like it mimicked the jungle grass border and I had fun quilting with it.

I used Hobbs 8-/20 as I had a piece that was just the right size. The threads were a YLI variegated cotton, Majestic #431. It is a lovely color and it worked perfectly on this quilt. In the bobbin, I used a Sew Fine #501 Lovely Purple, which all but disappeared into the flannel.
Using this cotton thread in the top was a little different for me, but I liked the way it looked. It needed a little more tension, which surprised me. Also, I might have used a 16 needle but an 18 was recommended, so I followed the recommendation. There was not a lot of lint from it, a good sign if you ask me.

Pretty quilts, both of them, but I am really partial to the darker background! Love the variegated thread you used. The quilting is just beautiful.

These panels are so good for baby quilts! It turned out really well.
Both are lovely, but I am drawn to the more recent finish (more cool colors, so that’s not surprising). Good luck and have fun planning out the next few baby quilts!

I love that wavy quilting motif you used! Both are great quilts, but I lean toward the blue and green as that, with a little purple, is my favourite colour combo. However, baby-wise, I’d go with the orange as it’s a nice bright pop.
