For round 2 of our Stay at Home Round Robin, my prompt is “Make It A Double”. It is week 2, a double block is what I am suggesting but it could also be a block with the number 2 in it. We aren’t the quilt police, but lets make this block related to the number 2. Without further ado, let’s look at some options and see what I decided!
What Are Some Options?

Here are some double blocks I found in Electric Quilt; all are named “double” something.
Row 1 blocks : Double 4 Patch, Double Cross, Double Pinwheel, Double 9 Patch,
Double Wedding Ring
Row 2 blocks: Double 9 Patch, Double Pickle Dish, Double Z, Double X No. 3
Row 3 Blocks: Double Monkey Wrench, Double Irish Chain, Double X No. 1,
Double Maltese
Row 4 Blocks: Double Windmill, Double Tulip, Double Diamond Knots,
Double Decker Bus
I thought I would show you them in greys this time, so you can see the blocks a little better. Now, these are just what I found in Electric Quilt and that’s not all of them. You can see that the Double X is in Row 2 & 3 in slightly different versions. Many blocks go by different names and some names are used for very different blocks. It is one of the funny things about quilt blocks.

I found these blocks too, as another fun approach. This is a double monkey wrench (tutorial here) but what is called a split block. So, the block is split in 2 and really is another fun option for any block you want to use.
My Block Reveal
I decided on the double monkey wrench, keeping the blocks I use to reflect something like gears and tools – to reflect the one fabric I am using. I didn’t like the versions of the Double Monkey Wrench I saw, so I designed one. It is simple, 2 sets of 2 half square triangles and 4 strip sets in each colorway, and a center square.

And, in the theme of make mine a double, I will offer you two sizes to make this block in – an 8″ and a 12″ block (finished size sewn into quilt) just for you to have someday.

And, here is a cutting table for the blocks.

I really love the colors in this block, too. The blues work very well with the purple dotted fabric. It is the same color way as the gear fabric and one of the fabrics in the original collection.

Kathleen your blocks are just going together so nicely! Your prompt this week is intriguing I’m going to have to do some thinking and some quilt math to see if my idea for the prompt will work. I’ll be back to link up if I’m successful
