Maine – A Fun Panel

Summer is nearly over and I am finally getting things finished – really finished. We traveled and were entertained by others. Then, others traveled to us and were entertained by us. We enjoyed the weather that came in July an August, many beautiful days except there has been too few days of rain for our plants, but the vacationers and residents alike enjoyed it. Things have quieted down, and I have lots to do this fall, so lets catch up on the first finish I want to share with you.

The Panel

This was the shop hop fabric panel for Maine this past April. I love the motifs depicted in this panel: the coast, the lobsters and the buoys for the lobster traps, loons, chickadees, mussels, oysters and trout. I have seen a lot of panels, but this one is very well done and the touch of red makes my heart sing.

The Quilt

Honestly, this is a very easy quilt to put together. I purchased enough fabric on the first one, that I needed a second panel. They are identical….except for the backs. All I did was add two borders and then quilt it. I added a finished 1″ border of this perfect pink red that went so well with the panel. The other was a Lumin/Island Batik fabric, called Pine Needles in midnight blue, which was perfect for the Pine Tree State fabric panel. I believe I cut it around 3.5″. One of these was finished in June but I decided to write the post when both were done….an odd delay tactic.

Here is the quilting pantograph I used called “Tree 1” in Prostitcher.

And a mockup from Prostitcher Designer of what it would look like (forgot to turn off the jumps), but you get the idea.

Here it is all done on my HQ Simply Sixteen, with Prostitcher. I used a Superior So Fine #494 and Super Bobs Poly for the bobbin. It worked like a charm.

They quilted up quickly and were fun to finish. I added hanging sleeves on each as I am sure they will wind up being wall hangings.

We headed out for some local shots, by the lobster shack on the island.

Forest City was the name of the landing for the ferry years ago. It is fun that the name continues at the lobster shack.

I promise to be back on the blog in a couple of days. The Dino Baby quilt just needs a binding….so I hope to have a post midweek…before a little trip to PA! Meanwhile, look at all the commitments I made coming up – hooray. What all this means is both lots of sewing and lots to share. I have a pattern for a cute friend for the blog hop.

I did buy 5 yards at the Maine quilt show. I haven’t added much else!

Prior YTD Fabric Used = 36.25 yards
Prior YTD Fabric Bought = 43 yards
Current Month Fabric Used = 7.5 yards
Current Month Fabric Bought = 5 yards
Net Fabric = 4.25

Well, I am still ahead in fabric, but I think that with the upcoming projects this will soon be remedied!
