Take Care, My Friend

When I saw this fabric, No Place Like OM by Dear Stella, I couldn’t resist it.  So often we need to remind ourselves to take care and this quilt is for someone who needs that extra reminder.  Also, I think this quilt is a good reason to pick one of the favorite activities and cuddle up with the quilt – a little embroidery, hand sewing, or knitting anyone?

Making the quilt

The pattern I selected was Broad Strokes by Fabric Cafe.  It is the book 3-Yard Quilts on the Double and you can get it at the Fat Quarter Shop* or Amazon*.

The construction went fast.  In fact, I made this in April at our quilt retreat.  What I did differently from the pattern was use the two fabrics from the line to add more interest to the quilt.  Honestly, there is no good reason for it to have taken this long to finish, except that it is not a quilt destined for anywhere specific.  I just liked the fabric and liked the idea of it. 

I quilted it on Tabitha, my Handiquilter Simply 16. 

I used a pantograph called Snail Square from Handiquilter and was able to make it fit nearly exactly across the quilt. The design went with the theme and is kind of a labyrinth on the quilt.  I used Glide on the top and a Magna glide bobbin in a similar color. 

There is a second version of this quilt that I am working on, which I am planning on finishing before the end of the year. The strip sets are made. The rows need to be made and the borders attached.

I just love this backing fabric. It really goes well with some of the colors in the front. There is no way you can’t be cheered up just by looking at it.

This is my only finish for October – 9 days of vacation and the prep before and recovery after does take its toll. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. However, I really do want to step up my sewing game and have a good few days to get to work in my studio. Let’s see how it goes.  Meanwhile, let us celebrate the finish!

I did shop hop again, so I added and subtracted nearly an even amount. I am still down for the year and really hope to be down a bit more in November and December!
