A more recent post from from Spoonful of Sugar led me to fabric envelopes and thought it was a terrific idea, great for the fabrics you love. A quilty friend is going through breast cancer treatments and a little package was going her way and needed something hand made.
The Envelope
I found an envelope from a returned Christmas card and took it apart.
I had some fabric that was just perfect – I can’t tell you when I bought it – but the marbled fabric is from the early 90s I am sure. It is time to start using this beautiful fabric, and, the fact that it is like marbled paper makes it even more perfect for this project.
You then put the open envelope on the fabric and trace around. Sew around it, turn it inside out and then do the hand sewing. You can see the above mentioned tutorial for more details.
Voila! You have have a fabric envelope. I did add a snap but apparently after I took the photo.
And I had enough fabric for a second one, so as I finished Busy Bee for Monday’s post, I finished this too. Instead of doing hand stitching, I stitched by machine all the way around.
I used a permanent fabric glue to close it.
And I added a snap using my handy dandy KAM Snap Tool*.
This is really fast and fun. As I was looking for this tutorial, I found a few others. As I often do with recipes, I will combine the techniques and make up my own fun way of doing it. I have to say this little project is a fun diversion and a very fast finish when the sewing machine and iron are out!
