I hear it is National Dog Day on Susan’s blog at Quiltfabrication. Nancy, from Grace and Peace Quilting alerted me to this, and I just saw a post from Susan. So, while we am busy help our son move, I am so happy to tell you a little bit about our favorite dog.

This was in March of 2008 when we met Percy the puppy. He’s an Australian Labradoodle and he is our son’s dog. John was 14 in this picture. He was so pleased…it was the day we picked him up and brought him home. This picture brings me so much joy, and we had no idea what a great dog he would be.

This is Percy, not too long ago, and John, now 27. Percy was sick and had just returned from the hospital. John has never had hair this long, but he did not cut it or his beard since March 2020! He always loved being on the floor with him. Percy is recuperating well, and enjoy a daily hamburger roll and hamburger (turkey or beef) in addition to his special diet .
You may not have known that my dog is famous among quilters as a model for a pattern. The designer asked for pictures and I sent the one on the left; on the right is her pattern and her interpretation of Percy! You can find her original post here and if you need the pattern, you can find it here. Percy until recently has been the energizer puppy. People are always asking, “How old is your puppy”? 13!

Of course, I made my own version. I love this and it hangs in my sewing study. I love the flanged binding and the curly, swirly fabrics.

This is a picture of our guy, right before he got so sick. He was just groomed and it is one of the few times you will see him in a bandana. I think he looks quite dashing, but the boys (men) don’t love it so I don’t do it when they are around.
Thanks for indulging me in some Percy time. The last few weeks have been tough, but he really is back to about 80% of where he was. We’ll be happy with that for a bit longer to enjoy this sweet dog.

Percy is precious indeed…glad to hear that he is healing so well! 🙂
Sorry to hear that Percy has been sick, Kathleen, but glad to hear he is feeling better! How does it feel to have a celebrity in the family? What a cute model Percy is.
Aww, super cute photos of Percy!!! I didn’t know he was a supermodel! Fun quilt block!!! I’m so glad he’s improved!
Aw, sweet Percy! I’m so glad he is feeling better; I know that makes all of you feel better. I didn’t realize he was famous, too – cute block!
So thankful Percy is on the mend. Your son has a good start on growing his hair out. I grow mine out and donate it to Wigs for Kids. If he were to continue to let it grow he could then donate it to Wigs for Kids. I know several guys who have done this. The minimum donation length is 12 inches. For more information he can go to https://www.wigsforkids.org/.
oh when I saw the puppy pic it reminded me of my Standard poodles Cole and Milo. Milo is now 4, you’ll be happy to hear we survived the puppy year with a few scars! He is my darling boy. When Cole passed I thought I might give up but then Milo found us and it’s been our wee family of three since. I know of you Kathleen but I saw your comment on quiltschmidt’s I Like post (I’m the host at Not afraid of color) and it was so sweet I had to come visit you too! Happy quilting, best to Percy, glad you’re indulging him with burgers!!!

Percy is the cutest! I’m glad he is recovering well.
I hope he continues to improve each day.
Hi Percy! You are quite the handsome pup, no doubt about it. And you have an owner who loves you! So glad he is improving. ~smile~ Roseanne
Percy definitely is a handsome lad in his bandana! I am so glad to hear he is 80% better, and I hope he gets 100% better within this coming week. I did not know he was the poster child for a designer’s quilt pattern!
Percy is adorable Kathleen and I hope you and your son continue to have a lot more time with him.
Glad that Percy is feeling better. The quilt is adorable, too. I was not even aware that there is an International Dog Day.
Percy is adorable Kathleen! I know he is such a dear member of your family and I’m so glad he is getting better. What an honor having a block pattern made in his likeness. I love the photos of him and your son. Good luck with the move!
Percy looks like a fantastic dog and I hope you have more time to enjoy him. Thank you so much for celebrating National Dog Day with me!
Kathleen I’m so happy to hear Percy is feeling so much better these days. He is such a handsome boy with or without his bandana. Aren’t Labradoodles just the best furbabies ever? My youngest son and his wife had a Labraddodle. Zeneca was the smartest boy ever. He woke my son and DIL up in the middle of the night by nudging and nosing them. My son thought someone was breaking in the house. Instead, he opened the bedroom door to see a wall of flames. Zeneca saved their life that night I’m sure. Sadly Zeneca passed away just before the COVID-19 shutdowns began, but he did get to play with and guard my son’s three children. The youngest was only 2 when Zeneca went over the bridge and still asks for him to visit.
