Where I have been…

So many things have gone on since my last post, 9 days ago. First up, I will need to plot my Tips or Tutorial for the 22nd. We will be back in Maine early Tuesday evening, my blog writing will begin then. This past weekend I continued participating in Copyright (now Trademark )Camp with Elizabeth Townsend Gard (Just Wanna Quilt) and continue to learn a ton, some of which I will begin to share when appropriate on my blog.

Speaking of islands, a plan is in place for the upcoming Sea and Sand blog hop, coordinated by Carol at Just Let Me Quilt, which begins Monday the 22nd and runs through the 26th (I am up on the 24th). I needed some fabric which I obtained at Cambridge Quilt Shop. I wanted fabric with handwriting…that’s all I am telling right now. The line up looks great, and you can see it here.

When we came back to Massachusetts, I had 4 medical appointments that had all gotten smushed together, mostly due to the delay in the apartment move – Dentist, Gynecologist, Dermatologist and my first vaccine (delighted!!!). In between the time, I continued to work on my study. The bottom of this post, shows in a small way the disaster that awaited me. The biggest challenge was that my fabric cabinets were now in the living room, holding crystal and some panty items. So I began to get some things in the closet and start placing things around the room.

Here’s a view looking out the door. The origami cutting cart has my olfa mat, brother scan and cut and accuquilt dies.

We’ll begin with a backwards view into to study. You enter through this door and see the bookshelf to your right and the origami cutting cart to your left. Below you can see the wall facing east which has the origami cart and the desk and printer on it. No pictures/quilts have been hung yet….that’s next week.

Here’s the origami rolling cutting table (with Olfa Mat, Accuquilt dies and Brother Scan and Cut). Also, my office desk & printer are living on this wall.

Now, there is a nice little view from my room. We are on a park and there is a river – one that was notoriously polluted until Tufts University (among others) began to clean it up. There is even a boathouse for their crew team on it. If there was window on the desk wall, I would be facing East and the river.

This window faces Boston to the south. We used to see the Encore casino, but now we are blissfully unaware of its presence. The other real bonus, is that we have a sweet little patio. Furniture will arrive in the next few days to help us enjoy the space when the weather is a bit more temperate. You can see some things are still waiting to be placed/plugged in.

The sewing desk, a cabinet or two of drawers, a ruler holder, rulers in a bag, and the quilts are waiting for final placement.

Now the opposite wall, to the right of the window, is the the sewing station. There is a desk and my Bernina 440. I have some more things to put away, but the bulk of things are near where they need to go, and I am so pleased about that. A pile of quilts need to be hung on the walls. We did the rest of the hanging of things in the bedroom/living room, but this will be done next week. Today, my husband had his second cataract done and all is well, but hanging pictures will wait.

The closet is large and there is even a high shelf which I didn’t take photos of. You can see there is a lot of stuff in there, but it feels good. I had cabinets in my old study that held the fabric; they are now in the living room acting as both pantry and crystal storage. The fabric was refolded (thank you AMY!!!!) and placed in 10 bins. I would not be where I am today without her help. There are fabric scraps to sort but the wire elfa contains those. As you can tell, things shifted, but loosing a room still afforded us enough space to do a lot here. Also, the ironing board lives on the back of the closet door, which you don’t see in any of these shots.

The bookshelf is in a good spot, but the dog bed keeps moving.
This time, though, Percy was enjoying the new sapce.

Finally, this is the bookshelf as you come around. The nice thing is that there is space in the center of the room. I can do yoga or have room for our son sleep in here on a blow up mattress. We have a storage unit nearby that has a few of those things in it. He has only stayed a half dozen times in 3 years, so it is not a huge need. There is also a a apartment down the hall that we can “rent” if someone is coming and wanted to stay for a few days. While it is not complete, I could sew the next time we are here! I am excited to have a new space and one with a great view and hope to find it inspiring.

Spring Fever blocks: Umbrella, primrose, and tulip.

Oh, and I have been keeping up on my EQ8 lessons too. I am doing Kari Schell’s Spring Fever Challengewith Quilt Collage classes and enjoy learning whatever I can, whenever I can. So, that is what I have been up to. Not sure there will be another post before the end of the week, but it depends on what happens. I admit to being a bit confused about days, but I will get that straightened out.

Great window view, lots of clothes space. That patio is going to be so wonderful! Oh, Percy is looking so adorable–is he a cockapoo?

Looks like you are getting settled. I hope life quiets down a bit for you now, so you can really make that space your own. Will look forward to hearing about the trademark camp!

You have a lovely view and a good space! I’m sure you will love it more once everything is in place! Percy looks like a sweetheart!! Yes, the picture hanging can wait until your hubby’s sight has improved. I hope that goes well for him. The friends I know who’ve had cataract surgery says it improves their vision so much. My mom was able to just wear reading glasses after both of hers. I’m doing the Spring Challenge with Kari too! It’s been fun and I’m really enjoying the EQ classes with her. So happy you pointed me in her direction!! Have a great week.

I love seeing others’ sewing spaces. Yours is already so organized, good light, awesome canine company, and will only get better. I’ve been doing some organizing in my own space since my husband painted a 16-shelf cube from IKEA we used to have in the condo. Amazing what a little organizing can do!

Hi Kathleen! What a fabulous post. I throughly enjoyed the trip around your space. I had to giggle about your view of the casino that you are blissfully unaware of now. That would be so fun/tempting to me! I would want to pop over once a month or so . . . I’m so glad to see your Spring Challenge blocks. I just worked on the kite block last night – your fabric choices are so FUN. ~smile~ Roseanne
