2020 Monthly Color Challenge – October

October! How did that happen so quickly? This is a funny year – at times moving at the pace of a snail while we shelter in our shells and other days it seems to just race along like most years. Right now, I am still wanting to write September, and really we are only 2 days in but I still can’t quite believe it!

Isn’t this little fella adorable? The ruby crowned kinglet does indeed have a red crown, but it is hard to see. Jen picked this bird to highlight the sage green colors, but I must say I am fascinated by the crown. Apparently, catching a glimpse of the crown is tough…but surely a sight to behold. They do come to Peaks Island, at least according to our bird watching neighbors, so I will have to keep an eye out for them. In order to get the pattern, you must go to Jen’s blog at Patterns by Jen.

Meanwhile, lets get on to this lovely block. It is a fun block, with 4 star shapes many quilters have made many times. I do check my points before cutting, so if I have to adjust, I can may accommodate that 1 out of 4 geese of the 4-in-1 method that always wants to give me a little trouble. I find my Wing Clipper* an invaluable tool when trimming geese!

Once again, when the linkup opens, my photo above will take you to the blogpost with the link. Until then, happy sewing.

Your blocks together look like leaves rustling in a gentle spring wind! Love it!

I can’t believe it’s October either! Maybe I’ll work on my October block today, to ease back into my quilt room after my break. I like your block, Kathleen!

Hi Kathleen! Lovely block – the fabric you chose has so much movement in it that it seems to make the stars move. Good job! ~smile~ Roseanne

Your block is just stunning Kathleen! Those botanical blenders are incredibly rich fabrics, of which I have a couple. Like you I am fascinated by that crown too; in fact I thought it was a feather that just happened to land on the bird’s head!

I can’t believe we are in the last quarter of 2020! You certainly captured the sage green from that handsome little fella! Nice block!
