OMG, PhD in 2020 Update and Other News

I am so excited about my OMG. It is to use up some blocks that I made from a design for the Fall into A QAL in 2018. I have 3-12 1/2″ blocks and 6-6 1/2″ blocks to work with. Furthermore, this will serve 2 other purposes. The first, is that it is also one of my PhD projects. The second purpose is that I am using this as the base for my HelloFall Blog Hop. I hope to come up with a fun pattern for the Hop on my September 21 date.

My PhD is within reach. I have finished 8 projects and started and finished 11 projects. I think that is a pretty good for this year so far. I do need to think about how I want to quilt my barn quilt, as I was planning on renting a machine. I may have to have someone quilt it for me; I need to see how the fall goes.

I am working on 2 small quilts. One for my grand niece Edith. Since Edith is a close cousin of Annaleigh, I thought another Elizabeth Hartman Pattern would be appropriate, Delightful Desert. I am also using the same background, as another way of relating the quilts. I like the way the first two blocks are looking; and hope to work on a third block this week.

The second quilt in progress is one called Granny Squares. A small group of quilters decided to do this. I won this, during the Coronavirus Quarantine on Scott Fortunoff’s facebook page. He is one of the owners of Jaftex Fabrics (Free Spirit, Henry Glass, Studio E, and more). He’s bringing it back at some point, so I will let you know when, when I figure it out.

Speaking of winning, I won this too, a swag bag from Sewing Machine’s Plus for commenting during one of their live events. Again, I encourage you to watch for these things and play along – you never know when you will win!

Oh, and confession time…a nice new machine is coming my way. I needed to update one, and I am soooo glad with my purchase. It won’t arrive until the end of the month, or even the end of October so I have to say nice things about the machines I am using until then….otherwise I will be cursed! Well, watch for lots of things this week.

Hi Kathleen! Oooh, a new machine?! Can’t wait to hear about that. Those Granny Squares look just like the afghan my great-grandma had made. I do wonder what happened to it but it’s long gone now. You’re doing great with your project and the PHD this year. Just four more months and you’ll have earned it for sure. ~smile~ Roseanne

Nice winnings! That’s a cute acorn block; we have a TON this year from our oak tree, but that’s what they do when they’re stressed, and it was a very dry summer. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Love it when a project ticks off a few boxes!
