TGIFF – A New Wallet

Where did that week go??? All of a sudden it is Friday, and, I am back hosting Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday! Some of you might be seeing this on Thursday – we run it a little more than 24 hours so our friends in different time zones can play.

I was hoping this piece would be finished. It is not. You can read a little about it here. I started this in 2017. It is my OMG (One Monthly Goal), but I will have 4 good days to finish, after my son and his high school friend, Alex leave, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

In order to be a good hostess, I started this little wallet that I wanted to make. I saw the die on a Sizzix* sale; I didn’t realize it was a Sew Sweetness(website under construction for a few days) pattern. Wednesday afternoon the pieces were cut out. It is a good that that there was this video – it was super helpful. If you are interested, Sizzix discontinued the die, but it is available on Amazon*. Because Sew Sweetness is switching to a new website, I don’t know if there is a separate pattern but will update it as soon as I find out.

It was a quick project, but there were lots of interruptions. By Wednesday evening I had cut out the pieces and did the basic assembly. Thursday was installing the zipper and the topstitching. Overall I am pleased with the wallet, I love the fabrics. However, I do need to work on refining the curves and the assembly of the bulk. I have made lots of things with zippers but the inside out/turning around/circular nature of this makes it look a little more homemade than I like.

However, it is finished and I can use it tonight when we take the boys to dinner. I love that I can carry a phone inside the wallet; it solves the lack of a pocket problem that I sometimes have. However, if I make it again, I would do an outside pocket for coins. I hate having no place for them, and really concentrate on the curves/zipper work. But the good news is, this too, is a project that I have been planning to do for awhile, but it finally came to fruition, so I think I will count it for the DrEAMi linky party at mmmQuilts!.

Without further ado, below is the link for your finish. And, just so you know where to look, next week’s TGIFF is hosted by Gail Sheppard at Quilting Gail.

In a little bit of self-promotion, I also have a linky party for Tips/Tutorials running through the end the month (every month from the 22nd through the last day of the month). You can check it out here – lots of great tips are coming in this month and there are still 4 days left.

It looks like the perfect size for a quick trip out (which, to be honest, I’m not doing right now, but still…). 🙂

Those outside, all around zippers are a bit tricky, but you did it, and you have a nice wallet to boot!

Cute! I’ve always struggled with bags and this sort of thing and they come out looking like something from a middle school home ec class. Yous is lovely, and that’s a nice size

It turned out really cute, but I know zippers are hard on curves and bulk, so is binding! You will master it I know;)

That’s a great wallet. Bonus that your phone fits inside. My problem is that I carry a personal phone and a work phone — no little purses or wallets for me. LOL

Love the fabric you used in your handy wallet, Kathleen! I’m excited to see your Japanese puzzle come together!!! Thanks for hosting the link up!

Hi Kathleen! I had really, really, REALLY hoped to have a big boy quilt all finished and a post to link up with you. Alas, that is not meant to be. I have two days though to meet the monthly OMG goal, so there is hope for both of us! Love the wallet – it is cool that you can store your phone in it. ~smile~ Roseanne

The addition of a change holder is a great idea! The wallet looks really useful, especially since it can hold your phone. Great job! And, thanks for hosting TGIFF!

This is so cool. Love the beautiful fabric and that it is actually instantly usable makes it a winner!!! Coins??? I have not seen those in a good long while…
