Welcome to Tips and Tutorials On The 22nd (#TTot22). This is the second installment. Last month we had 7 entries, not including mine. At the bottom of this month’s entry are links to all the tips/tutorials from January or at my Pinterest board (here).

I want to suggest a few ways to use your cell phone as an aid in quilting. I have an Iphone; am not at all experienced in Androids, but I will try to suggest where you might find it.

Help Your Memory
I take photos all the time to remember the order I want something in. Here is an example of one on the ironing board. Easy peasy!

Check fabric contrasts (light/dark)
I love to do this. Sometimes it is really hard to tell which is the tones of your fabric. In the above pictures you can see that batiks vary between medium and dark. There are quite a few in that shot that read as the same tone; a little photo editing helps.
-First, make a copy of the photo.
-Then open your photo editing software. Usually there is an option for black and white.
-Save it and look at both of them to make choices about fabric placement

Check out Fabric Choices:
Sometimes I audition fabrics this way. I was looking for a background and selected the one on the right. Sometimes I take two pictures (or more) of each choice and make a slide show in my photo software and run it until I can say “yes” to one of the fabrics!
Here is one block Here are 9 blocks
Make collages!
Sometimes, I want to see if I want to make more of a block. For this, I use and app called Layout (both Androids and Iphones have this app) which gives me simple choices. Mostly, I might want to see how something might look as an entire quilt.
-Open Layout
-Select a photo from your phone; I used a block I had already cropped to the edges.
-Scroll to the far right and you have a 4 or 9 patch option
-Select the 9 patch. Save it. OR
-Add narrow borders (scroll on the bottom of the screen) and Save it.
You now have an instant preview of a quilt in your phone!

I hope there are some new ideas floating around in your head to help you with your quilting. I will be in a class at QuiltCon when this posts, but be assured I will check in when I can. It may take a day or longer to respond. Meanwhile, here is what was shared last month. You can also find the linky party in my going to this link or to my pinterest board,

I didn’t know that I could make a layout with my phone…cool tip! 🙂
I’m so glad you learned something new!
Good tips – I’d also add the use of the filters on the phone cameras. Sometimes my photo is taken at the wrong time of day, when the sun is lowering and not providing good natural light. Often I can use the filters on my phone to brighten the shot and make it more usable.
The filters are awesome as is the cropping!
I’m going to check out that layout app. Nice tips again.
I think you will love it!
Great tips; love my iPhone! I also watermark all my photos on my iPhone too using the Markup feature. Easy peasy!
I use thought I’d do a few….there are so many! Thanks for sharing yours!
Hi Kathleen! Great tips this week. I am beating myself up because I couldn’t come up with a new tip . . . but I’ll go find an old one or two. I have to put my thinking cap on for next month. However, I do see other bloggers sharing comments that need to be linked up with you now. I’m much more aware! ~smile~ Roseanne
No worries it can be anytime in the month. And if you have old but good one link it!
It was wonderful to meet you at QuiltCon! I’m going to check out that Layout app. Thanks for the tip.
It was so lovely to see you and glad you are still quilting! Look forward to seeing you more on the blogs once tax season passes (as it will).
