There is a mini-swap that happens in conjunction with QuiltCon. Last year I saw it and it looked like a bit of the mayhem! Something called me to participate this year, so I am in!

I want to tell you about my block. It is from a pattern called Brimfield Block. I am sure my first sighting was with Rhea’s store, Alewives Fabrics, but I have watched many others cross my path in the last few years. If you don’t know Rhea’s work, check it out. She has a great weekly Lucy Boston block, which I always lust after. You can see my versions that I did with Island Batik fabrics here and here. Check it out if you want to swoon.

My swap partner likes Alison Glass and dots, so this was where I started. I didn’t know I was going to do the Brimfield Block. It was one of those images that kept coming back into my head, eventough I was thinking do something really modern. The hearts got forgotten in the final product and I don’t I regret that. I liked having all the Alison Glass on the back. Also, since this was an I can’t not make this impulse, I am linking up to Sandra’s DREAMi link on Saturday, Feb. 28.
Even on a dark grey day, when I was picking the background, these fabrics have an electric quality to them! I loved the raspberry but felt the lilac was a better choice.

I left spot on the label as I knew the designers, Kim Martucci & Nisha Bouri, would be there. I was able to get their signature for my swap partner and in another totally awesome move I got Alison Glass’ signature too! What fun did I have.

I really don’t post a lot of pictures of myself but it seems to be a thing to do from QuiltCon so there are two in this blog!

This is my swap partner and don’t you just love the quilt she made me. I have been loving those stars and to have them in Alison Glass fabric is so awesome!

I like to include a lot of information on my labels and this one is no exception. I didn’t include that when doing the English Paper Piecing I used bobbin thread I had from Quilt Con last year (a slick thread DecoBob) in a beige that blended in very nicely. I thought it would be very appropriate to use the thread.

Looks like fun! What a beautiful block!,
I love that block! I have all the papers, I’ll send you some if you’d like. I will never make a whole quilt of it.
Sweet quilt, Kathleen. I love that you got signatures, that makes it so much more special for your recipient. Looks like you had a lot of fun!
It was really fun to do that for my swap-mate. I had a great time, I will post a recap in another day or two. It is a great quilt show with some fun energy.
Brimfield in Alison Glass — oh so pretty! And I love the mini she made for you with its retro vibe!
Aren’t they both fun! I love the retro vibe and that she put the stars in the blank spot with quilting. It was really fun!
Beautiful! And the back is pretty, too! I love the one you gave and the one you received. Nice job, quilters all!!!
They were so much fun. I really liked making the Brimfield block, I see more of those in my future!
What a fun swap and how awesome you were able to get so many signatures, what an extra special touch!
I was so happy when I found out they would be there. I do think it made it special for my swapmate!
Hi Kathleen! So glad you made it home safely, and that you got involved in the mini mayhem swap. HOW COOL! That was so thoughtful of you to get the autographs for your swap partner. Thanks for showing us your background selection process – I love seeing stuff like that. Looking forward to hearing all the fabulous details about QuiltCon. ~smile~ Roseanne
All in one piece, but a few more things to make than I planned on. It was all so much fun. Gotta write the post and sew tomorrow…..so many things to catch up on!
What a beautiful block and to have autographs is icing on the cake.
It was really fun to do and all the folks were so nice about it!
It’s so pretty! And how awesome to get the block designers and Alison Glass to sign!! I think that you and Wendy have convinced me to do the mini swap next year 🙂
It was really fun. Definitely consider it! There were a lot of great little quilts. I have an idea for next time already!
That is a lovely finish and the back is so pretty. It was fantastic to meet you in person. Definitely the highlight of my day 🙂
It was really one of the best parts of QuiltCon! Oh my…that hug and your presence a true gift!
That is just such a fantastic block and beautiful fabrics you chose to make it! The quilt you received is beautiful too; I myself have been lusting after those stars too after seeing the tree skirt Janine made her daughter. Can’t wait to see Quilt Con from your pov. And it’s lovely to see YOU!
PS Forgot to add thank you for linking up to DrEAMi!
Done, I added a bit of text to the blog too!
I love the block and loved it in the modern colors. I just couldn’t use white as a background, although I thought about it. Funny how those stars have caught all our imaginations!
Your Brimfield block is so pretty and is perfect for a mini quilt! I bet your swap partner loved it!
Thank you. I think she did love it.
what a fun project!! and yes – pics from quilt con are so great!!
I do have a few more to share…hopefully soon…but as you can see I am a little late replying.
That was a great swap, both are so pretty. You look very happy at QuiltCon.
I was really happy at QuiltCon and had a fabulous time. I loved the swap and both quilts too!
Well, I for one, enjoyed seeing you in a couple of pics. And how amazing of you to get those signatures on your terrific swap quilt! Your partner must have such a treasure now. Your quilt in return looks like a keeper too – a great experience all round.
Thank you! I take horrible photos and am so embarrassed by them, but these weren’t too awful. The quilts were awesome and you are right – the swap quilts are keepers!
