Jen Shafer from Patterns by Jen ran this wonderful block of the month last year. I was an Island Batik Ambassador in 2019 for the second year and had plenty of scraps. So, I thought this would be a great way to make a benefit quilt.

When I last left you I had this plan. The fun thing was I posted this right about my machine and assembled the blocks with this in front of me. I don’t believe I took out one row of stitches. How awesome is that.

Here’s a shot of the assembled top. Honestly I wasn’t sure I was in love with it, but the magic happened!

I loaded the quilt on Tabitha, my Handiquilter Simply 16 with Prostitcher and worked on a couple of patterns. In the end I picked Heatwave and I love it. I was a little worried about the height of the design but it worked perfectly. I really think it brings the quilt to another dimension.
Here’s a close up of two blocks. I think the purple is one of my favorites in the quilt. Not sure if it is the fabric or the block, but it is the one I love to look at.

And the back. This is a piece of fabric I saved for many years (14 apparently) as it was a 2006 fabric designed by Alex Anderson. I think it is time it is used.

I am so pleased with it and pleased that is wil lbe a comfort quilt for someone. As it was an Ambassador project, I am grateful to Island Batik, Aurifil 50 wt. in white for piecing and Hobbs Batting Premium Cotton Batting – all of which were used in the project. I also used a Superior So Fine #408 Silver.

I am not sure where this is going but I know it will be well loved. It is also my One Monthly Goal for the month and part of my PhD in 2020. Next blog entry will be tomorrow – my whale for Awesome Ocean along with a great co-host, Rose from Something Rose Made.

Gorgeous glowing colours in the quilt, Kathleen! It’s stunning!
Thank you, Sandra. I enjoyed using the scraps and really am tickled with how it turned out!
Hi Kathleen! This finish just r.o.c.k.s. I adore that quilting pattern! I wouldn’t have thought to try it but it really gives the whole piece some really nice texture. It makes me want to reach right through the screen and touch it. Hmm. I still have my top to quilt. I wonder if I could copy you – sort of, because it definitely wouldn’t be quite that consistent by a long mile. I have been racking my brain for a February OMG and Sue keep saying quilt the color blocks. Thank you my friend! You have, once again, inspired me. Boy, it was a lucky day when I met you. Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne
I looked at a few other patterns but this one just spoke tome. Imitate away my friend!
Your quilt really turned out so nice. How fun to be able to completely finish it, quilting and all!
I am very pleased with it. I try to be aggressive about finishing those tops, but having my friend Tabitha makes it so much more fun!
Congrats on the finish! It’s a fun and bright quilt. Great quilting design also
Thanks, Vicki, I do think it is a cheery quilt for a charity.
Heatwave looks great on your quilt, Kathleen! Nice finish!!!
When I was looking at designs I thought no….but then I really liked it much better than some others. Funny how that happens!
Lovely! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and congrats on your finish.
Hooray for no ripping of stitches! Always a reason to celebrate! It looks great, and I like the heat wave quilting pattern. Congrats on being one step closer to your PhD in 2020!
It was a miraculous day, I must admit. I really love heat wave on this quilt – I was not too sure but went for it!
Congrats on a gorgeous finish. I love the quilting design too. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
Thank you, Denise, for commenting and for hosting!
Love that magic moment too…. the quilting makes everything belong together, even if you have misgivings beforehand. Great finish Kathleen.
Thank you, Dione. It is a magic moment isn’t it when it is all done.
Love your finish! And to think, you didn’t need to use your seam ripper??? That’s a miracle in my books!
Thank you for linking to PHD in 2020, Feb 1 Report!
Happy Quilting! 🙂
