Awesome Ocean Block 3

Welcome to Block 3 of the Awesome Ocean Sew Along (AOSAL in my notations). I am loving this little puffer fish! This is now 1/3 of the way through the blocks when you finish these two. Not so bad, if I may so so myself. If you are using a light background, consider using another fabric for piece L.

Prep time is about 1 hour of cutting and about an 1 to 1 1/2 hour s of sewing – depending on interruptions and mishaps!

Hint 1: I used this sheet to cut and label my pieces. I liked having them the same size. I also flipped and saved so I could do the next block.

Hint 2: I ran into problems and low and behold there is a correction on Elizabeth Hartman’s site. She says: Page 7 (Puffy) piece G should be 1-1/2″ x 2″ and not 1″ x 2″. This was only true on the early versions, but check your cutting directions on page 7 before you cut.

Hint 3: Match up the “nose” and “mouth”. I did unsew to make this work, hopefully my hint will prevent that for you.

Hint 4: It is easy to mix up background pieces N & O. Fortunately I only did it on one piece and the recutting was easy. Again, hopefully my error helps you avoid one.

Hint 5: The top fin pieces, P & J, are laid out differently with the strips pointing UP, so be sure you look at it!

It is not too late to join.

They are all so cute. Love how they look in batiks. I am so late in this game. I finally have my background fabric picked out (blue!) and I’ve decided to use various FQ and scraps for the fish. I hope to catch up during the break and may be able to host one of the blocks. Let me get back to you in a couple of days.

They are so much fun. Love to have you host whenever and catch up as you can! It’s not that hard as long as you aren’t pushing on a deadline. Every 2 weeks is a nice pace. The first block is fast and people are just staring 3 so you’ll be caught up in no time! And you can start with 3 and backfill. – whatever makes you happy -as that is what this is all about.

Thanks so much! I might look at the scrap challenge. I think I have enough on my plate, but I am always in the mood to use up scarps!
