2019 December Monthly Color Challenge

I finished this month’s block from the 2019 Monthly Color Block, by Patterns by Jen. I decided to play along and almost every month, I was able to finish before the end of the month. I used my Island Batik Scraps and am really pleased with the way this turned out.

Finishing this quilt will be my OMG (One Monthly Goal) in January.

I like the grey as it is a little more subtle than the black. I think not everyone is as in love with black as I am. This may wind up as a benefit quilt, so sometimes, I think black is not the best color for that. Both of these were done with Electric Quilt 8*. I brought my photographs in of my blocks, a quick and easy way for me to figure out what I may want to do for borders.

I am fascinated by the difference in colors. The picture on the left was on a grey, snowy day. The one on the right was at night in a room with a pretty high level LED lamp.

I am excited to share that I will be hosting some blocks for Jen next year. The colors are based on birds – how fun is that??? Sign up for her emails if you want to get it right in your mailbox on the 1st of the month. Here are some useful links:

Prizes are back and as usual, it will be a fun and stress free Block of the Month. One new thing this year are 3 background options (white, black or color of the month background). Think about it! I believe I will do the two shades of one color again, but, there may be an interesting way for me to incorporate one of the others, we shall see!

Hi Kathleen! Wow, the difference in the two different sashing colors. I love the black with the red cornerstones – that really makes all the blocks POP. The gray is just a bit softer, and it seems to pull out the background fabrics on those two corner blocks on the top row. Especially the flying geese block! I’m so glad you’re joining in for 2020. We’ll make the party happen. Merry Christmas to you and your family. ~smile~ Roseanne

The party will be awesome. I might be leaning towards to gray or an additional 3-4” border of color with the black…time will tell!

I think the black is gorgeous but I think you are right it isn’t everyone’s favorite. Looking forward to your finish.

I really love the black with red! (But then I always go toward the black.) Good luck with your goal!

I love the black with red, but think it is better in grey for a benefit quilt. I have made a fair amount of black this year, so if someone needs one, there are a few in my stash!
