Let’s Have Some Fun: Tips, Tutorial and Trivia

It seems that Sarah, the wonderful, creative and loving creator of Hands2Help wants some links to some fun thinngs – tips and tutorials. If you haven’t yet signed up for Hands2Help you still can here. This has been a banner year with sign up so I think there will be a heck of a lot of quilts going to great charities! I am a little late with this but I thought foks would enjoy it anyway.

Tips

  1. Hand Sewing: Thread the needle before cutting off the thread. Then cut the thread and knot that end. This will save you some hassle of the thread knotting up on itself.
  2. Swim noodles are your friend – they can be used to stop things falling betwen your sewing table and the floor {or your toddlers bed}. Or you can roll quilts on them, them to prevent wrinkling.

Tutorials

I will toot my own “tutes” which are helpful for two things:
a. Labels.
b. How to face a quilt tutorial – rather than use binding.
A favorite tutorial of mine is for Flange Binding. Best way to enhance a mini and do your binding all by machine and give it a pretty accent.

Trivia

I have been having a heck of a time. Mercury has been in retrograde. (It ended the 28th) and I have decided that is why. Here are some things people say about it.

When Mercury is in retrograde, technology, communication, travel, logic, and information all get disrupted, but understanding Mercury retrograde's true meaning, knowing its dates and how long it lasts can help you deal with astrology's most nerve-wracking event.

I figure knowledge is power so let us know when this is happening! Now, I will be prepared for a season when I have to rip out every other seam or search for fabric because I can’t count or redo a row because it is on backwayrds.

Hope you are chuckling, as I do take this all with a grain of salt, but I like this explanation better than aging and menopause – both which won’t go away!

Progress this week:

  1. Design work on April and May projects
  2. Project prep for next weekend’s quilting weekend
  3. Prepping quilt for quilting on April 1.
  4. Making blocks for our Sew Let’s QAL.

Your Mercury in Retrograde is hysterically incorrect with its “starts in ___, ending in ___” – they are backwards!! Leo is after Cancer, Pisces is after Aquarius and Scorpio is after Libra. Somebody goofed up there! Love H2H!

Oh my – what will I do. I may have to find another one that is correct. It is just perfect though in that it was the way the whole month felt! I am glad I made a disclaimer at least – how ridiculous!

This was a fun post to read! I cut before I thread, but I try to remember which end to thread. Your method is probably easier – haha. Of course, if Mercury isn’t whacking things out, then it shouldn’t be a problem, right??!!

You can imagine I perfected the thread then cut due to too many confusing moments. I sure hope it is a less whacky period.

Hi Kathleen! Oh boy, it seems unfair to me to have Mercury in retrograde right after my birthday. Of course, I’ll never remember that but thanks for sharing that tidbit and your other helpful hints. ~smile~ Roseanne
