This quilt was exhibited in the Rising Star Quilt show in 2000 – almost 19 years ago. For a long time it hung in our living room. It was later replaced by my quilt “Whitby Abbey”, which is still there. This quilt is now in my bedroom and I love seeing it.

The critters came from this book by Charlotte Patera. I dont’ believe it is still in print, but I really loved making the quilt.

These two are among my favorites – the fish with the little smirk cracks me up.

This bird is very much in contention too as a favorite. I’ll try to get better pictures these are a little out of date. Two of my other favorite things is the early Kaffe Fasset (still in print I think) and the black border with the sliver of the moon. Funny thing about this quilt – I was working on my hand quilting skills quilting in black – couldn’t see a thing. But I guess that way I had the confidence to continue. There is also some quilting in a deep gold.
So, other than that I have been busy with a few secret sewing projects. Tomorrow, I should be doing my one monthly goal (late night post today for the deadline) and my monthly color block – one ufo and one finished block.
Enjoy your Thursday,
This is a fantastic quilt Kathleen! I’ve never seen this technique in quilting though I’m familiar with the mola design. That Kaffe print is such a good one. I have it in orange and also in blue!
Thanks, Sandra. I need to link up – I sneaked this one in today and have one to write before the end of the day – 4 hours to go – no problem!! I loved doing this in some ways, in others not so much. I may need to revisit…..
I remember you making it! Can’t believe it was 19 years ago! It is timeless piece… Classic technique and modern simple design. Beautiful work!
I remember! I love this quilt and realized how dusty it is. I am thinking of giving it a little wash. It made me want to do another, I really enjoyed the little applique I did last month, and it made me want to do more. Of course, I do have a ufo and plenty of handwork around….
Cute quilt. That Kaffe Fassett print is one of my favorites, too. I had to look up how to do Mola because I had forgotten. It looks challenging but fun—and a great take-along kind of work. I think of quilting with black as like quilting in the dark, so I’m impressed that you did it.
