Partners in Design 2019 QAL Announcement

It’s a new year and a new design from the Partners in Design. Now, I am chuckling to myself, and thinking partners in design crime! Don’t ask… I hit my head the other day, maybe I am just a tad sillier than normal.

We are a group of designers that met in the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers group. Some of us continued to work together in this group by designing a QAL and have had a blast doing it ever since.

I Wish You A Merry QAL was our first.

Fall in to a QAL was our second.

\

Welcome to our theme: Sew Let’s Quilt Along!
Yup – our theme is sewing and quilting. Just start to think of all the things we love about sewing/quilting – the tools, the fabric, the machines, the things we make. The list goes on and on. I think you will love this one, and I see a lot of quilts or other things for our sewing rooms or your friends’ studios! You will make a block every two weeks. There will be a group of 5 blocks to start and then two more segments with 4 blocks each.

JOINING:  Go to our facebook page here and ask to join. Answer the questions please or we don’t accept your request.  Every 2 weeks a new block is released – details below.

Whats normal about this QAL?
*Any level of sewist is welcome.
*Designs are secret until the release date.
*Patterns/designs are released every 2 weeks on Tuesdays
*Prizes will be awarded

What is a little different?
*You can make one large project or 1-3 of the small projects!
*There are 13 blocks. We will explain with the release of Block 1.
*One 18″ x 24″ block and 12 – 12″ blocks – 13 total.
* There are 3 segments (for at least 3 different projects) and also an entire quilt option….we thought people might like more choices.

Quilter’s Dream Batting http://www.quiltersdreambatting.com/
Everything Mary https://everythingmary.com/
Shabby Fabric https://www.shabbyfabrics.com/

Due to the demanding cost to ship to Canadian and International addresses, these prizes will be patterns and/or an e-magazine that will be sent in electronic format only. International prizes may be from companies other than what is shown in the sponsor logo.

Eligibility for Prize Entry for all Participants
Segments: Participants can enter the prize drawing by sharing a single photo with all the completed segment blocks on facebook, instagram, or the hosts blog linky party at the end of each segment.
Grand Prize:  Share one photo showing all 12 of your completed blocks, as above.

You must be 18 years old to enter.

Segment Prizes: These are awarded after each segment. Prizes will be awarded after each segment – a picture with all the blocks or a completed project is requited. You can share on our linky pages or in our private Facebook group or on Instagram with the hashtag #SewLetsQAL

Grand Prizes: Only quilters that use all of the designers’ blocks (in a quilt or project(s)) will be eligible for the Grand Prize.

Fabrics:
Background: 2 yards (4 half yard, 8 FQs etc)
Major Players: 8 Fat Quarters or 1/4 yard
Supporting Actors: One FQ each of black, brown, silver

Is this all from your stash? That is how I am working except for 2 pieces that I bought specifically for the project.
Do you want a thematic fabric? dots, grunge, solid, specific designer or fabric line, etc.
My best advice is each block should stand on its own, you can make them work together with your layout for a larger quilt, and for the smaller projects, too. This lends itself to working from your stash so you don’t really have to gather any of it before you see the first block. My first block is entirely stash based.

SHARE!!!!!

Finally, help us get the word out! We appreciate you sharing our enthusiasm so share one of our posts, our facebook link or pin a picture to your pinterest board for QALs you are doing! The more quilters that join, the more fun we all have.

Feel free to ask any questions! We are here for you.

Hi Kathleen! I will be glad and happy to add a button to my website. I can copy the QAL photo you shared above, or if there is any coding for it I can add that. This sounds like fun! I look forward to seeing the release and more info. ~smile~ Roseanne

Sounds like fun! I am curious if the blocks or overall design is modern, traditonal or where do you see this leaning?

I’ll be digging for brown and silver…working from a “mini stash” far from my “main stash” and most of my fabrics are solids…will that work?

I have never done a QAL, but this one sounds like my style! How do I sign up?

I’m looking forward to this, Kathleen! What could be better than a quilt with a quilting theme?!!

  10. February 27, 2019 / 2:00 PM

I might just have to join in on this one…have resisted all QALs so far this year, and haven’t got my own up and running yet, and it will overlap this one but then don’t most QALs overlap??!!

A fascinating discussion is definitely worth comment. I believe that you should publish more about this subject, it may not be a taboo matter but usually folks don’t talk about these subjects. To the next! Kind regards!!
